Details Unveiled About Afghan Arrested for Plotting ISIS Attack on Election Day
Speculation mounts over IRGC infiltration and Israel’s precision targeting of high-profile terrorists.
Disturbing details are emerging about an Afghan man arrested in Oklahoma for allegedly plotting an ISIS terror attack on Election Day. The suspect, 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, reportedly worked as a security guard for the CIA in Afghanistan before being evacuated to the U.S. following the chaotic Biden administration withdrawal in 2021.
Tawhedi’s arrest has raised serious questions about the Biden administration’s failure to properly vet individuals evacuated from Afghanistan under its rushed humanitarian parole program. While charging documents initially stated that Tawhedi entered the U.S. under a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) which involves a more thorough vetting process sources later revealed that he came to the U.S. on humanitarian parole, a status that requires far less screening.
The revelation that Tawhedi was admitted to the U.S. with minimal screening has sparked widespread outrage. The suspect’s arrest follows an investigation into his connections with ISIS, which included encrypted communications, terrorist propaganda, and efforts to illegally purchase firearms. He has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism.
Minimal vetting: Tawhedi entered the U.S. under humanitarian parole, not the more rigorous special immigrant visa program, raising concerns about the vetting process for Afghan refugees.
ISIS propaganda: Tawhedi and a juvenile co-conspirator (his brother-in-law) possessed ISIS materials and made terrorist hand gestures in photos, which encouraged attacks on the U.S.
Firearms acquisition: In his encrypted Telegram messages, Tawhedi admitted to purchasing two AK-47 rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition to carry out the attack, which targeted large gatherings on Election Day.
The FBI began monitoring Tawhedi earlier this year after discovering that he had donated to a charity with ties to ISIS. From there, an undercover source established contact with the suspects, purchasing their belongings as they sought to raise money for the attack and to send their family back to Afghanistan. It was through these interactions that the FBI gathered enough evidence to arrest Tawhedi and his co-conspirator.
According to prosecutors, Tawhedi admitted in a post-arrest interview that he had planned the Election Day attack with the expectation that he and his co-conspirator would be martyred.
This latest development puts a glaring spotlight on the administration's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and the dangerously lax vetting processes for individuals brought into the U.S. The fact that an individual with suspected terrorist ties was able to not only enter the country but plan a large-scale attack raises serious concerns about the national security implications of the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
With the 2024 election fast approaching, this incident underscores the urgent need for stronger border security and vetting procedures. It also highlights the increasing threats that ISIS-inspired terrorism still poses to the U.S., even as the media often shifts its focus away from radical Islamic terrorism.
The American people deserve answers, and it's time for the Biden administration to address this glaring failure.
