Mike Jeffries, Former Abercrombie CEO, Arrested on Federal Sex Trafficking Allegations
Ex-Abercrombie & Fitch executive accused of exploiting aspiring male models in international trafficking ring.
Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries was arrested Tuesday morning on federal sex trafficking charges, alongside two associates, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the fashion and corporate world. Prosecutors from the Eastern District of New York have accused Jeffries and his associates of engaging in a sex trafficking scheme between 2008 and 2015, targeting young, aspiring male models.
The FBI began investigating Jeffries following an explosive report by the BBC in October 2023. The report detailed allegations that Jeffries and his partner, Matthew Smith, hosted sex parties where young men were coerced into performing sexual acts at lavish events held in New York and around the world. Eight men came forward, revealing that they were recruited and pressured to participate in sexual activities under duress at these high-end gatherings.
Jeffries and two associates face over a dozen charges related to their involvement in the alleged trafficking ring. The men reportedly used their positions of power and influence in the fashion industry to exploit victims, promising career opportunities in exchange for their compliance.
The case also links Abercrombie & Fitch to the trafficking operation, with a civil lawsuit filed against the company last year accusing it of financing the illicit activities between 1992 and 2014. The lawsuit claims more than 100 male victims were exploited during this period, a scandal that tarnished the company’s image long after Jeffries stepped down in 2014.
Jeffries and the other defendants are expected to appear in federal courts later today. While Jeffries and one defendant will appear in Florida, a third individual will face charges in Wisconsin. Prosecutors are set to release further details during a press conference later this afternoon.
Jeffries’ attorney, Brian Bieber, has stated that they will “respond in detail to the allegations after the indictment is unsealed,” and that they plan to address the matter in court rather than through the media.
The charges come at a time when the fashion industry faces increasing scrutiny over sexual misconduct and exploitation, with many calling for greater accountability and transparency. As this high-profile case unfolds, it is sure to capture national attention and potentially reshape the legacy of one of the most recognizable retail brands in America.
