Trump’s Bold Proposal: Arm Teachers and End School Shootings

Published:

After virtually any school shooting, the progressive left tends to call for gun control measures that infringe upon the Second Amendment. But former President Donald Trump has a different perspective: he believes the solution to ending school shootings is to arm trained teachers on school campuses.

In an interview following his speech at the National Rifle Association’s annual gathering, Trump stated that if elected, his plan would involve allowing “teachers that are very good with firearms” to carry on campus. He suggested that arming just 5% of teachers could significantly deter mass shootings in schools.

During his speech, Trump highlighted that school shootings are not a gun problem but a mental health, social, cultural, and spiritual issue. He noted that many of these mental health problems stem from drug use, which is exacerbated by illegal immigration and an open southern border.

Trump also proposed creating a new tax credit to reimburse any teacher for the full cost of a concealed carry firearm and training from highly qualified experts. He emphasized that only teachers who are very skilled with firearms, such as military veterans or police officers, should be considered for this responsibility.

The former president argued that knowing teachers could be armed would deter would-be shooters from targeting schools. Some school districts have already embraced this idea, with several in Ohio allowing teachers to carry firearms on campus to enhance security.

Trump’s proposal offers a stark contrast to the gun control measures often championed by Democrats and the mainstream media. As a potential solution to the problem of school shootings, it is a policy that other Republican candidates should consider promoting in the face of calls for stricter gun control.
