Zelensky Apologizes to Trump in Letter After Oval Office Confrontation, Says Envoy Witkoff
The Ukrainian president sent a letter following a tense meeting that ended with Trump showing him the door.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly sent a letter to President Donald Trump apologizing for his behavior during a heated Oval Office meeting, according to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
"Zelensky sent a letter to the president," Witkoff confirmed. "He apologized for that whole incident that happened in the Oval Office."
The confrontation, which erupted during a meeting intended to finalize a mineral trade deal between the U.S. and Ukraine, ended with Trump telling Zelensky to leave the White House after the Ukrainian leader refused to sign the agreement. Zelensky then skipped a formal lunch that had been prepared for him, which was later eaten by White House staff.
Zelensky’s refusal to sign the deal angered Trump and top U.S. officials.
The deal would have economically tied Ukraine to the U.S., strengthening its security.
Trump’s administration has been clear that securing peace in Ukraine is a top priority.
Senator Marco Rubio, who serves as Secretary of State, emphasized that Trump’s goal is to push Russia and Ukraine toward negotiations. "We want to explore whether peace is possible," Rubio said. However, he noted that Ukraine had been resistant to key discussions.
Trump’s firm stance with Zelensky underscores his America-first approach to foreign policy. Unlike the Biden administration, which has written endless blank checks for Ukraine, Trump seeks real solutions solutions that put American interests first.
This week, Rubio is traveling to Saudi Arabia to continue discussions with Ukrainian officials, reinforcing Trump’s demand for diplomacy over endless war. Zelensky’s apology may be the first step in a necessary course correction.
