Whoopi Goldberg Slammed for Comparing Black Americans to Oppressed Iranians

Critics call it “moral idiocy” as Goldberg downplays Iran’s tyranny to bash America.

Whoopi Goldberg ignited a firestorm of backlash this week after claiming that black Americans in 2025 are no better off than Iranians living under a brutal Islamic dictatorship a comparison many are calling not only wildly false but morally repugnant.

During a segment on ABC’s “The View,” Goldberg dismissed the horrors faced by women in Iran, saying, “Let’s not do that… We’ve been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car,” and even exclaimed, “They used to just keep hanging black people!”

Her cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin, to her credit, pushed back, pointing out the obvious: in Iran, women can be jailed, beaten, or worse for simply wearing a skirt, showing their arms, or walking alone in public. “I can’t have my hair showing,” Griffin said, “I can’t wear a skirt.”

But Goldberg refused to back down, minimizing Iran’s state-sanctioned oppression and equating it to past injustices in America despite the fact that Americans now live under a rule of law that protects civil liberties and prosecutes hate crimes.

  • In Iran, women like Mahsa Amini have been murdered by the regime for improper hijab her death sparked global outrage after the regime returned her beaten body to her family.

  • Iranian women are routinely beaten, raped, and imprisoned for protesting or not dressing according to strict Islamic law.

  • In the U.S., Whoopi Goldberg hosts a national talk show and faces zero legal consequences for voicing incendiary, anti-American views.

Conservative commentator Guy Benson didn’t mince words on Fox News: “It’s hard to overstate the moral idiocy of what we just heard… Our government prosecutes hate crimes they don’t commit them as a matter of course.”

Social media lit up with responses as well. One user posted, “Whoopi can freely travel, show her hair, sing, dance, and express her unfiltered s****y opinions on TV without being arrested… Meanwhile Iranian women are kidnapped and beaten for simply showing their hair.”

Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) summarized the sentiment best “If America were anything like Iran as she suggests, Whoopi Goldberg would be punished for the way she bashes our country. But because she lives in America, she has the freedom to say idiotic things on TV every day.”

Exactly. America isn’t perfect but to equate the United States to a tyrannical, terror-funding regime like Iran is both ignorant and grotesque. Maybe it’s time Goldberg took a break from her Hollywood bubble and met real women living under the regimes she foolishly defends.
