White House Blasts New Jersey Governor for Encouraging Public to Track ICE Agents

Sherrill’s radical new portal sparks outrage over threats to law enforcement and public safety.

In a move that has sparked bipartisan backlash and fierce condemnation from the White House, newly elected New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill is under fire after urging residents to film and report U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents via a state-sponsored video portal.

Appearing on The Daily Show, Sherrill openly encouraged citizens to whip out their phones anytime they see ICE officers in action, stating, “If you see an ICE agent in the street, get your phone out, we want to know.” She claimed the effort would help "document" federal enforcement actions and push back against what she called "unacceptable" behavior by ICE.

But the Biden White House usually an ally to Democrats like Sherrill didn’t hesitate to slam her dangerous idea.

“If Sherrill was as committed to tracking down criminal illegal aliens as she was ICE officers, New Jersey residents would be much safer,” said Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson. Jackson also cited a 1,300% increase in assaults against ICE agents, fueled by hostile rhetoric from the left. She referenced a recent incident in which an officer had a finger bitten off by a radical protester during an operation.

The absurdity of the governor’s stance hasn’t been lost on Republican leaders either.

  • New Jersey Assembly GOP Leader John DiMaio warned the portal "puts everyone at risk" and further endangers law enforcement already operating under hostile conditions.

  • DiMaio noted that ICE agents have arrested convicted sex offenders and violent criminals in recent weeks the very people Sherrill seems more eager to protect than prosecute.

  • He rightly pointed out that encouraging people to record and upload law enforcement activity "risks escalating tensions" and deters officers from doing the very job that keeps our communities safe.

Incredibly, Sherrill attempted to justify her actions by citing two isolated incidents in Minneapolis neither of which were confirmed by ICE or independently verified accusing agents of “execution-style” killings and saying they “pick up American citizens” at random. These are serious and inflammatory allegations with zero substantive evidence.

Meanwhile, Sherrill’s office claims that the video portal is about “keeping New Jerseyans safe.” But from who? Law enforcement officers enforcing immigration laws? The very people tasked with removing illegal aliens with criminal records from American streets?

Let’s be clear: This is not about transparency or community safety. It’s about weaponizing the public against federal law enforcement and undermining ICE’s ability to do its job. It's a political stunt that could seriously compromise national security all while scoring points with the radical open-borders base.

Sherrill’s dangerous move underscores just how far today’s Democrats are willing to go to sabotage the rule of law. At a time when illegal immigration is surging with more than 2.4 million border encounters in 2025 alone the last thing America needs is a governor encouraging people to treat ICE officers like criminals.

New Jersey deserves leadership that stands with law enforcement, not against them.
