White House Defends Labeling Trump A Threat Despite Assassination Attempts

Karine Jean-Pierre dodges questions after repeated efforts on Trump’s life, focusing on January 6 rhetoric.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to back down after labeling former President Donald Trump a “threat,” even as he remains the target of assassination attempts. The latest attempt occurred just days ago in Florida, where a gunman allegedly staked out near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course for over 12 hours, waiting for a clear shot at the Republican nominee.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy confronted Jean-Pierre on Tuesday, pointing out the danger of such language amid these recent attempts on Trump's life. “How many more assassination attempts on Donald Trump until the president, the vice president, and you pick a different word to describe Trump other than ‘threat’?” Doocy asked.

Jean-Pierre dismissed Doocy's question, claiming it was "dangerous" in and of itself. “The question that you’re asking, it is also incredibly dangerous in the way that you’re asking it," she said, asserting that the administration condemns all forms of political violence. Jean-Pierre added that President Biden had reached out to express relief that Trump was unharmed.

But Jean-Pierre stood firm on her description of Trump, pointing to the events of January 6 as justification. “What I have said about the former president about January 6 is facts,” she told Doocy, while reiterating that the White House isn’t calling Trump a “threat” lightly. According to her, Trump’s influence on the Capitol riots makes the term appropriate, and she repeated “January 6” multiple times to emphasize her point.

This is not the first time Democratic leaders have employed extreme rhetoric against Trump. According to the Trump campaign, Biden has previously said Trump should be put “in a bullseye” and referred to him as an “existential threat.” Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have repeatedly called Trump a danger to democracy, with Harris recently branding him a “threat to fundamental freedoms.”

The Trump campaign has highlighted how this kind of incendiary rhetoric from top Democrats preceded the two assassination attempts on Trump. Yet, Jean-Pierre and the Biden administration remain unapologetic, continuing to use inflammatory language while downplaying any connection to the violence against the former president.

The question remains: how much longer will the Biden administration keep demonizing Trump while ignoring the dangerous consequences their words may have? As the 2024 election draws near, it's clear that the left’s smear tactics against Trump won’t stop, even when lives are at risk.
