Weingarten Promotes Anti-Fascist Book Days After Charlie Kirk Assassination

Teachers union boss under fire for pushing extremist rhetoric while refusing to denounce killer’s radical motives.

In a move that’s raising eyebrows across the country, American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten is pressing ahead with a virtual event to promote her new book on “fascist regimes” just days after conservative leader Charlie Kirk was gunned down by a suspect allegedly driven by anti-fascist extremism.

The book, Why Fascists Fear Teachers, hits shelves Tuesday, and the virtual event is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET the same day. Hosted by the far-left political group Emerge, the event features Weingarten alongside Democratic activist A’shanti F. Gholar. Notably, neither the AFT nor Emerge has canceled or even acknowledged the timing of the event in light of Kirk’s assassination.

Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck during a campus event at Utah Valley University last Wednesday. The shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, reportedly left behind shell casings inscribed with phrases like “Hey fascist! Catch!” a chilling indicator of political motive rooted in the same anti-fascist narrative Weingarten has been pushing for years.

This disturbing connection has sparked outrage from conservatives and independents alike. Weingarten did issue a generic condemnation of “political violence” after the shooting, posting that her “prayers are with Charlie Kirk and his family.” But there’s been no direct acknowledgment of the radical ideology that reportedly inspired the murder the very same ideology promoted in her book.

Consider the twisted irony:

  • A national teachers union boss pens a book claiming conservatives are fascists.

  • A conservative leader is assassinated by someone who appears to believe that narrative.

  • Instead of pausing or reflecting, Weingarten presses forward with a virtual book tour.

The book’s preview reads like a lecture on progressive paranoia:

“Fascists fear teachers because teachers foster an educated and empowered population… They teach young people how to think for themselves.”

But who exactly is doing the brainwashing here?

Weingarten has used her position not just to advocate for public education, but to insert radical politics into classrooms and vilify half the country. Her remarks at the AFT’s 2024 convention painted a dire picture of America under Donald Trump, warning of “the eradication of rights and freedoms” if Republicans win the very rhetoric that is now dangerously being taken literally by left-wing activists.

It’s the same script we’ve heard from Democrats and union leaders for years: If you’re a conservative, you’re a fascist. If you support school choice, you’re an enemy of democracy. And if you stand against their woke agenda, you're dangerous.

Now, with a conservative family grieving and a nation still reeling, Weingarten won’t even hit the brakes.

Meanwhile, polling continues to show growing distrust in public education leadership, with more than 65% of parents saying they want less politics in the classroom and over 70% supporting school choice options a clear repudiation of Weingarten’s agenda.

The silence from Democratic leadership on the assassination is deafening. Imagine if the roles were reversed if a conservative shooter had targeted a progressive activist using anti-socialist rhetoric. We’d see wall-to-wall media coverage and calls for national soul-searching.

Instead, the narrative is being buried, while the left doubles down on its “anti-fascist” crusade no matter the cost.

Randi Weingarten's refusal to cancel or even modify her book event speaks volumes. For her and her allies, political messaging comes first even in the shadow of murder.
