Waymo Recalls Over 1,200 Robotaxis After Software Glitch Leads to Multiple Crashes
Self-driving car failures raise new concerns about safety and oversight as Big Tech rushes to replace human drivers.

More than 1,200 Waymo self-driving robotaxis were pulled off the road this week after a software glitch caused the vehicles to crash into barriers, gates, and roadway objects the latest red flag in Big Tech’s growing push to put artificial intelligence in control of public transportation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed it had opened a federal investigation into Waymo’s robotaxi operations after multiple reports of the vehicles violating traffic laws and colliding with clearly visible obstacles things any human driver would instinctively avoid.
Waymo, the autonomous driving division of Google parent company Alphabet, admitted to at least 16 crashes with fixed objects between 2022 and 2024. While no injuries were reported, the incidents raise alarming questions about what’s really being tested on America’s roads and who’s being put at risk.
“Some of the crashes involved collisions with clearly visible objects that a competent driver would be expected to avoid,” the NHTSA noted.
Waymo currently operates over 1,500 robotaxis in major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Austin, claiming to complete 250,000 paid trips per week. But even as the company insists that the issue was resolved with a November 2024 software update, this marks the third recall in less than a year:
February 2024: 444 vehicles recalled after two crashed into the same towed truck.
June 2023: 700 vehicles recalled after one collided with a telephone pole in Phoenix.
Now: 1,200+ pulled over failures to detect simple roadway objects.
This pattern shows a disturbing trend: unproven technology is being greenlit for the streets, and real people are being treated as test subjects.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration instead of demanding accountability is cozying up to Silicon Valley. The NHTSA is also quietly reviewing Tesla’s upcoming robotaxi service, which Elon Musk hopes to roll out this summer. Officials want to know how Tesla’s vehicles will operate, how many will be deployed, and if they’ll be monitored in real time because so far, no one seems to know.
“FSD Supervised ride-hailing service is live for an early set of employees,” Tesla posted in April. “We’ve completed over 1.5k trips & 15k miles.”
Translation We’re experimenting in real-time with no real safeguards in place.
What’s happening here is exactly what America has come to expect from unelected tech oligarchs: bold promises, flashy launches, and zero accountability when things go wrong. It’s not about safety. It’s about control, data, and profit all under the guise of “innovation.”
Human drivers aren’t perfect, but they don’t need monthly software patches to avoid driving into a gate. And the last thing Americans need is a future where an AI decides whether your family makes it home safely.
