VP Harris Previously Pledged to Keep Transgender Criminals Out of Incarceration

Vice President's past campaign promises spark criticism amidst ongoing policy shifts.

During her 2020 presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to work towards keeping transgender criminals out of jail. This promise has resurfaced, drawing scrutiny and criticism as Harris is now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee for the 2024 election.

Harris’ now-inactive campaign website stated that “the LGBTQ+ community is exposed to higher rates of violence and assault in prison, and it is even more so with transgender individuals.” To address this, Harris proposed alternatives to incarceration to prevent transgender individuals from being imprisoned and sought significant reforms to sentencing laws to reduce sentences overall.

“Kamala understands the best way to address the issue is to seek alternatives to incarceration to prevent trans individuals from being incarcerated in the first place,” the site read. “Kamala would also push to significantly reform our sentencing laws to further reduce sentences.”

Key Points:

  • Campaign Promises: Harris pledged to reduce incarceration rates for transgender individuals and proposed significant sentencing reforms.

  • Current Criticism: Harris faces backlash for her past positions, including from Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), who argues that criminals, regardless of gender identity, should face jail time if they break the law.

Senator JD Vance blasted Harris’ stance, stating, “I find it pretty weird that Kamala Harris was so fixated on the issue of ‘transgender incarceration’ that she said we should seek alternatives to jail time for criminals who violate the law. I don’t care what gender you think you are: if you break the law you should go to jail. It’s as simple as that.”

Harris’ campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

Harris’ campaign website also highlighted her plans to “build a new generation of transgender leaders” and work with transgender advocates to implement a comprehensive agenda addressing violence against transgender individuals and promoting inclusivity.

The Biden-Harris administration has consistently pushed progressive gender ideologies and celebrated transgenderism. This includes promoting sex-change attempts among federal bureaucrats, implementing gender transition support plans, and barring the use of biologically accurate pronouns for transgender individuals within government agencies.

Additionally, the administration has introduced radical gender theories into the military. A Daily Wire investigation revealed that a diversity, equity, and inclusion newsletter from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence praised an employee who claimed crossdressing improved his intelligence work.

Harris' past campaign promises have resurfaced as she navigates her role as Vice President. Her stance on transgender incarceration is seen as part of a broader pattern of policy shifts and progressive agenda items that have characterized her political career.

Critics, like Vance, argue that Harris' policies are too lenient and undermine law and order. Vance specifically criticized Harris' handling of immigration issues, stating, “It doesn’t shock me that someone like Border Czar Kamala Harris can’t wrap her head around the basic principles of law and order,” noting her alleged responsibility for the influx of illegal immigrants and associated criminal activities.

As the 2024 election approaches, Harris' previous promises and current policies will undoubtedly remain focal points of contention and debate.
