Vance Unveils New DOJ Role to Tackle Explosive Fraud Scandals

Vice President announces Assistant Attorney General post focused on massive welfare fraud tied to Somali networks in Minnesota and beyond.

Vice President JD Vance announced Thursday the creation of a new Assistant Attorney General position within the Department of Justice a move designed to lead an aggressive crackdown on fraud that has bilked American taxpayers out of billions, starting with rampant abuses in Minnesota.

Standing alongside law enforcement officials at a press briefing, Vance made it clear: the era of government handouts with no accountability is over.

“We are creating a new assistant attorney general position who will have nationwide jurisdiction over the issue of fraud,” Vance said.

“That person’s efforts will start and focus primarily in Minnesota, but it is going to be a nationwide effort, because unfortunately, the American people have been defrauded in a very nationwide way.”

This major move follows explosive revelations of widespread welfare fraud in Minnesota, including fake daycare operations, fraudulent COVID loan schemes, and other abuses tied to non-citizen networks, many of which are allegedly connected to members of the state’s large Somali immigrant population.

  • The Department of Health and Human Services has frozen all childcare payments to Minnesota while investigating the scope of daycare fraud, which could exceed hundreds of millions of dollars.

  • The Small Business Administration suspended 6,900 borrowers in Minnesota after identifying $400 million in potentially fraudulent COVID loans.

  • Broader investigations have frozen funding for welfare programs in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, and New York, all Democrat-run states that have become havens for bureaucratic abuse.

Vance didn’t mince words about who is paying the price. “If you’re a young parent struggling to afford childcare in the United States of America, there are programs... Those programs should go to American citizens, not be defrauded by Somali immigrants and others,” he said.

The new DOJ post is part of a larger Trump administration initiative to clean up corruption in federal benefit programs and ensure that aid goes to Americans not grifters or foreign nationals abusing the system. According to sources familiar with the rollout, the role will be backed by a multi-agency task force targeting fraudulent use of:

  • The Child Care Development Fund (CCDF)

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

  • The Social Services Block Grant (SSBG)

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) praised the announcement, calling it “GR8 NEWS 4 the American taxpayer” and vowing to oversee the nomination process once President Trump selects a candidate for the position.

This isn’t just bureaucratic reshuffling it’s a shot across the bow of the corrupt systems that have thrived under Democrat-run states and a clear message that the Trump-Vance administration is putting America First starting with cleaning up the messes Biden and his allies ignored for years.

“Business as usual is over,” Vance said. “We’re not going to let foreign nationals or crooked operators rob hard-working American families anymore.”

The new Assistant Attorney General for Fraud is expected to be named in the coming weeks, and sources close to the administration say more law enforcement deployments to affected states are imminent.
