U.S. Military Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen

Precision airstrikes disrupt Iranian-backed Houthi operations targeting Red Sea vessels.

The U.S. military carried out precision airstrikes on Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist targets in Yemen this week, targeting facilities responsible for orchestrating attacks on vessels operating in the Red Sea. The strikes mark a significant escalation in the ongoing efforts to counter the Houthis’ growing threat to regional stability and global commerce.

In a statement on Saturday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, which targeted a missile storage facility and a command-and-control center in Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen.

  • The operation utilized U.S. Air Force and Navy assets, including F/A-18 fighter jets.

  • Multiple Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles (OWA UAVs) and an anti-ship cruise missile were intercepted and destroyed over the Red Sea during the mission.

The strikes come in response to over a year of Houthi attacks on merchant and naval vessels in and around the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. CENTCOM emphasized that the operation aimed to “disrupt and degrade Houthi operations” that threaten U.S. Navy warships and international shipping in the region.

These attacks, carried out by the Iran-backed Houthis, have jeopardized vital shipping lanes, impacting global commerce and escalating tensions in an already volatile region.

The strikes in Yemen are part of a broader U.S. strategy to counter threats in the Middle East. In recent weeks, CENTCOM has conducted operations in Syria to eliminate ISIS terrorists, including the successful removal of the group’s leader and over a dozen militants.

By targeting Houthi command structures and missile storage facilities, the U.S. military is sending a clear message to Tehran and its proxies in the region. The Houthis’ reliance on Iranian support underscores Iran’s role in destabilizing the Middle East and targeting U.S. interests.

The precision strikes highlight America’s commitment to securing critical waterways and deterring aggression from Iranian-backed militias.
