United States to Resume Military Aid to Ukraine After Ceasefire Agreement

Trump administration brokers deal as Ukraine agrees to 30-day halt in fighting.

The United States will resume military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine after the country agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in its war with Russia a major diplomatic breakthrough led by President Donald Trump’s administration.

The ceasefire agreement came during negotiations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where Secretary of State Marco Rubio represented the U.S. and secured Ukraine’s commitment to halt military operations and pursue peace talks.

“We’re going to tell them this is what’s on the table Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking. And now it’ll be up to them to say yes or no,” Rubio said after the talks. “I hope they’re going to say yes. And if they do, then I think we’ve made great progress. If they say no, then we’ll unfortunately know what the impediment is to peace here.”

The agreement also addresses:

  • Humanitarian aid efforts during the ceasefire

  • Exchange of prisoners of war and civilian detainees

  • Return of Ukrainian children forcibly taken by Russia

The U.S. halted aid to Ukraine after a tense February 28 White House meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ended in a standoff. Vice President JD Vance was also present as Trump refused to grant security guarantees, leading to a chaotic press conference and Zelensky leaving Washington empty-handed.

Just days later, with no other options, Zelensky reversed course, agreeing to the minerals deal Trump had pushed for without additional preconditions.

As part of the peace process, the U.S. and Ukraine have now agreed to finalize a comprehensive agreement on Ukraine’s critical mineral resources, aimed at:

  • Boosting Ukraine’s economy

  • Strengthening U.S.-Ukraine strategic cooperation

  • Ensuring Ukraine’s long-term security and prosperity

President Trump’s leadership has once again shifted the global landscape forcing Ukraine to the negotiating table and demanding results before handing over more American taxpayer dollars.

Now, the world waits to see whether Russia will accept the terms or prove itself to be the real obstacle to peace.
