United Nations on Brink of Financial Collapse as Trump Cuts Ties

The globalist institution known as the United Nations is teetering on the edge of financial ruin and President Donald Trump is making it clear the U.S. will not bail it out.

Facing a $200 million cash shortfall in 2024, internal UN projections warn that the deficit could skyrocket to $1.1 billion by September, effectively bankrupting the institution and making it unable to pay salaries or suppliers. According to The Economist, unpaid dues totaling $760 million in 2024 are pushing the UN toward collapse.

And that’s just the beginning.

President Trump, just over 100 days into his second term, has taken a hammer to the bloated bureaucracy that is the United Nations. On February 4, he issued a decisive executive action stating:

“The United States will not fund UNRWA or the UNHRC and… will not satisfy any claims to pay 2025 assessments or prior arrears by these organizations.”

This is long overdue. The U.N. has proven time and again to be an anti-American, anti-Israel, and pro-terrorist organization that does nothing to advance our national interests. For years, American taxpayers have subsidized an international body that routinely votes against U.S. positions and gives cover to tyrants and terrorists.

The U.S. currently contributes $2.3 billion annually about 20% of the UN’s entire operating budget.

America’s total arrears are now around $3 billion, nearing the $4.5 billion threshold that would strip the U.S. of its vote in the General Assembly in 2027 though not its veto on the Security Council.

Let’s be clear: Trump isn’t just letting the UN fail he’s finally holding it accountable.

As Brett Schaefer of the American Enterprise Institute put it:

“If this is an organization that has no value whatsoever to our national interests, we need to get out of it and stop funding it.”

He’s right. The UN has failed to condemn China or Cuba for their grotesque human rights abuses. The Human Rights Council is a global punchline packed with authoritarian regimes and somehow blind to genocide, forced labor, and systemic oppression.

The worst offender is UNRWA, the UN agency operating in Palestinian territories. Trump previously cut its funding during his first term, exposing it as a hotbed of corruption and terror sympathizing. UNRWA has:

• Allowed Hamas terrorists to infiltrate its staff and use its schools to shield weapons and tunnels.

• Published school materials glorifying jihad and terrorism.

• Stood by silently as Hamas built military installations in and around their hospitals and classrooms.

And yet, Democrats continue to defend these organizations, demand we resume funding them, and scream “isolationism” when Trump refuses to write another blank check.

Let’s not forget The nations that vote most consistently with America are allies like Israel, Canada, the UK, and Australia. The ones that vote against us? Syria, Iran, North Korea, China, Cuba, and Russia. So why exactly are we bankrolling a body that empowers our enemies and undermines our allies?

The UN’s financial collapse isn’t just a crisis it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to finally defund globalism, dismantle the institutions that hate us, and reassert American sovereignty on the world stage.

Trump is right to cut them off. Now let them beg.
