Gabbard Criticizes Washington Post Over Alleged Staff Harassment
DNI says liberal media has crossed a line in targeting her staff and pushing a political agenda.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is putting the Washington Post on blast and not without cause. On Thursday, Gabbard accused longtime national security reporter Ellen Nakashima of harassing intelligence staffers, using burner phones, and even lying about her identity in pursuit of sensitive information.
“It has come to my attention that Washington Post reporter @nakashimae appears to be actively harassing ODNI staff,” Gabbard posted on X. “She is calling high level Intelligence Officers from a burner phone, refusing to identify herself, lying about the fact that she works for the Washington Post, and then demanding they share sensitive information.”
Let that sink in. A sitting U.S. intelligence chief is accusing a mainstream journalist of borderline espionage-level tactics to pry into America’s most sensitive operations all to attack a political opponent of the Left’s choosing.
Gabbard didn’t stop there. She claimed Nakashima’s history of targeting her goes back years, accusing the reporter of stalking her and her family back in Hawaii. “This is a clear political op by the same outlet and the same reporter who harassed and stalked my family,” Gabbard said. “This kind of deranged behavior reflects a media establishment so desperate to sabotage @POTUS’s successful agenda that they’ve abandoned even a facade of journalistic integrity.”
The Washington Post’s leadership predictably circled the wagons, with Executive Editor Matt Murray defending Nakashima as a respected journalist. “Reaching out to potential sources... is basic journalism,” he claimed, brushing off the use of burner phones and deception as if it were standard practice.
This isn’t journalism it’s advocacy disguised as reporting. It’s the same elite press corps that gleefully published leaked intelligence during the Trump years, cheered the Russia hoax, and peddled every anti-conservative conspiracy theory they could spin. And now, as Trump and Gabbard restore strength to our intelligence community, they're doubling down on their efforts to undermine anyone standing in their way.
This story reveals everything wrong with the corporate media ecosystem:
The Left’s favorite newspapers are now openly targeting federal intelligence agencies to score political hits.
Reporters are allegedly using burner phones and lying about their identities, bypassing proper channels and compromising national security.
The same media outlet has a documented pattern of targeting conservative leaders and their families.
And yet they call it “journalism.”
Gabbard’s warning should not be dismissed. It’s a red flag that the liberal press is willing to break all norms to damage those standing in the way of their narrative. If a Republican DNI had used these tactics on a Democrat president’s staff, the media would be screaming about authoritarianism. Instead, they pat themselves on the back and call it “reporting.”
The Washington Post should be held accountable because no journalist is above the law, and no political agenda justifies harassing America’s intelligence officers.
