Zelenskyy Says Peace Deal Near After Trump Meeting, But Territory Still in Dispute
Trump-brokered Ukraine-Russia peace plan gains momentum as Biden watches from the sidelines.

After months of failed diplomacy and bloodshed under Biden’s watch, President Donald Trump has brought the war in Ukraine closer to resolution than ever before. Following a high-stakes meeting at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that a peace deal with Moscow may be within reach but territory remains the last major hurdle.
Speaking to Fox News’ Bret Baier on Special Report, Zelenskyy said the two sides are “very close” to an agreement, adding “I think we have a problem with one question: It's about territories.”
The meeting with Trump followed his productive call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which both leaders acknowledged that a peace deal must be reached to end what has become Europe’s longest war in 80 years.
According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv and Trump are 90% aligned on a 20-point peace proposal, significantly narrowed from a 28-point draft discussed earlier. But the elephant in the room is Russia’s grip on occupied territories including Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, which Putin has sought to formally annex.
Zelenskyy floated a creative compromise “If we do a free economic zone... and move some kilometers back. It means that Russia has to make minor steps back… This free economic zone will have specific rules. Something like this referendum is the way how to accept it or not accept it.”
In other words, Ukrainians would vote on any future concessions, keeping the process in democratic hands unlike the sham referendums held under Russian occupation.
But Putin’s motives remain suspect, Zelenskyy warned. “I don’t trust Putin. He doesn’t want success for Ukraine… He can say such words to President Trump, but it’s not true really.”
That statement came just after Russia launched another wave of attacks on Kyiv just hours before Trump and Zelenskyy met. Moscow also claimed, without evidence, that Ukraine had targeted Putin’s personal residence in Novgorod with a drone strike a claim Kyiv firmly denies.
The contrast between Trump and Biden couldn’t be clearer:
Trump meets with both sides, puts forward a real plan, and moves the needle toward peace.
Biden funneled over $113 billion in U.S. taxpayer dollars into the war, with no end in sight.
Under Trump’s leadership, peace is back on the table. Under Biden, the war only escalated.
Even Zelenskyy, once a darling of the D.C. foreign policy elite, seems to understand that Trump is his best shot at ending the war without surrendering Ukraine’s future.
The sticking point now is simple: Will Putin bend, or will Trump force him to? Because make no mistake, Putin didn’t blink under Biden but he knows Trump is a different kind of leader. A deal is not just possible it’s likely if Trump stays in command of the process.
The world may soon witness what the globalist class refused to believe: peace through strength works. Not in theory. Not in a think tank. But on the battlefield, and at the negotiating table.
