Trump Tells NYC Voters Mamdani Won’t Get a Dime from Washington

As radical socialist Zohran Mamdani eyes the mayor’s office, Trump warns: federal funds won’t bankroll a communist revolution.

President Donald J. Trump just made it crystal clear if New Yorkers elect a communist to lead their city, they can forget about federal support.

In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump torched far-left New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “self-proclaimed communist” and warning voters that electing him will put the city at odds with Washington like never before.

“He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City,” Trump wrote. “Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?”

Trump’s message is loud and unambiguous if Mamdani thinks he can fund a socialist takeover with taxpayer money, he’s got another thing coming.

Mamdani, who recently clinched the Democratic primary on a wave of radical promises, has proposed a staggering list of government giveaways all of which hinge on massive spending:

  • $100 million in legal aid for illegal immigrants facing deportation, which he calls a “cornerstone” of his campaign.

  • $6 billion per year for so-called universal childcare.

  • $700 million annually for “free” bus service.

  • 200,000 affordable housing units, relying heavily on federal NYCHA funding, despite a $40 billion maintenance backlog.

  • A new city agency, the Department of Community Safety, to strip the NYPD of duties like traffic enforcement and homeless outreach.

His plan to fund it all? Soak private businesses. Mamdani wants to raise New York’s corporate tax rate to match New Jersey’s hitting companies with a 9% rate and has floated the idea of gutting tax exemptions for major universities. It’s a direct attack on the city's already fragile economic base.

But even if every corporation stayed and swallowed the higher taxes a long shot at best the revenue wouldn’t come close to covering Mamdani’s fantasy wish list. That’s why his platform depends on federal funds to make up the difference.

And that’s exactly what Trump is shutting down.

Mamdani has offered vague ideas about tapping federal grants for public housing and infrastructure, but he’s careful never to explain how he’ll convince Washington to bankroll his ideological crusade. Under a Trump presidency, the answer is simple: he won’t.

This is the same Mamdani who has promised to "Trump-Proof NYC" by using taxpayer dollars to shield illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement. He wants to dismantle police responsibilities, transfer housing to government-controlled “community land trusts,” and flood City Hall with new departments designed to advance a hard-left agenda.

Mamdani’s blueprint for New York City depends entirely on Washington’s cooperation and Trump just slammed the door shut.

The message is clear for New Yorkers electing Mamdani means burning the bridge to federal support. If voters want a future for their city, they need to reject socialism at the ballot box before it’s too late.
