Trump Demands GOP Senators Defund NPR and PBS
Trump draws a red line over taxpayer funding for leftist propaganda in public broadcasting.

President Donald Trump has issued a clear ultimatum to Senate Republicans: vote to defund NPR and PBS or kiss my endorsement goodbye.
The America First leader took to Truth Social on Thursday with a blistering message aimed directly at GOP lawmakers ahead of a critical Senate vote. At stake is a $9.4 billion rescission bill that would slash over $1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting the federal slush fund that props up leftist media outlets like NPR and PBS under the guise of “public service.”
“It is very important that all Republicans adhere to my Recissions Bill and, in particular, DEFUND THE CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING (PBS and NPR), which is worse than CNN & MSDNC put together,” Trump wrote. “Any Republican that votes to allow this monstrosity to continue broadcasting will not have my support or Endorsement.”
This isn’t just about bias it’s about taxpayer accountability. The legislation also guts $8.3 billion in foreign handouts, including absurd items like:
“Net Zero Cities” initiatives in Mexico
A taxpayer-funded version of Sesame Street in Iraq
Global LGBTQ+ programming from U.S. agencies
Trump already signed an executive order in May to begin pulling funds from NPR and PBS, citing blatant political bias and failure to meet the standards of impartiality set by law. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is supposed to remain politically neutral, but as Trump rightly pointed out, these networks operate more like extensions of the DNC than public information services.
Just look at the numbers. NPR’s own editorial staff has leaned heavily left for years over 87% of NPR donations in 2020 went to Democratic candidates. PBS programming, meanwhile, consistently promotes progressive talking points, from climate hysteria to radical gender ideology, all on the public dime.
The push to end this taxpayer-subsidized propaganda should be a no-brainer. But, predictably, the usual suspects in the Senate are already hedging. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, both of whom have a history of siding with Democrats, have expressed opposition to the cuts. Senator Mike Rounds is reportedly angling for an exemption for Native American radio stations.
Trump’s message couldn’t be clearer: no more funding for partisan mouthpieces disguised as news. If Republicans can’t stand up to NPR and PBS, how will they stand up to the left’s full propaganda machine?
This is a moment for the GOP to prove it serves the people not the bureaucratic elites and media cronies in Washington.
