Trump Warns Canada Against Recognizing Palestinian State
Trump says Carney’s move to back Palestinian statehood could blow up trade talks just days before major tariff deadline.

President Donald Trump is drawing a firm line in the sand, warning Canada that its decision to support Palestinian statehood could wreck trade talks and trigger devastating tariffs.
In a fiery midnight post on Truth Social, Trump slammed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement that Canada will join France and the U.K. in recognizing a Palestinian state this September during the United Nations General Assembly.
“Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine. That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them. Oh’ Canada!!!” Trump wrote.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Carney. Canada is staring down the barrel of a 35% tariff if it fails to reach a trade agreement with the U.S. by Friday, as part of Trump’s broader push to rebalance unfair global trade relationships. Trump has made it clear: support for terror-linked regimes will come with a price.
Carney’s tone-deaf announcement included the usual lip service: that Hamas must disarm and not be involved in future governance. But it was too little, too late. The Biden-era playbook of condemning terrorism while empowering the very people who commit it won’t fly under Trump.
“Any path to lasting peace for Israel also requires a viable and stable Palestinian state,” Carney claimed.
But let’s be honest this move is not about peace it’s about appeasement.
Trump made his position crystal clear just days earlier “If you do that [recognize a Palestinian state], you really are rewarding Hamas, and I’m not about to do that.”
Unlike Trudeau and now Carney, Trump refuses to legitimize a state that has done nothing to earn it and everything to lose it. Since Hamas’s barbaric October 7th assault which left 1,200 Israelis dead and 251 people taken hostage the so-called Palestinian "leadership" has shown no remorse, no reform, and no willingness to coexist.
Yet Canada and its European counterparts have chosen this moment to cozy up to that very movement and Trump’s not letting it slide.
Canada’s trade future with the U.S. is now in serious jeopardy.
A 35% tariff looms, and Trump isn’t bluffing.
Support for Hamas-tainted statehood is triggering backlash, not just from Trump but from Americans across the political spectrum who stand with Israel.
Carney’s political calculation is both dangerous and self-defeating. He’s willing to jeopardize Canada’s most important trade relationship to virtue signal on the world stage a move that will hurt Canadian jobs, industries, and families far more than it will help anyone in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to leverage America's economic power like no president before him. On Wednesday, he also slapped India with a 25% tariff and threatened further penalties over its continued purchases of Russian oil and military gear. China’s also on notice.
This is what leadership looks like. No hand-wringing. No half-measures. Just clear, decisive action to protect American interests and hold rogue nations and their apologists accountable.
Carney can either walk back this reckless announcement or prepare to pay the price.
