Trump Says JD Vance Likely GOP Frontrunner for 2028
President hints at MAGA succession as Rubio and others rally behind the rising conservative star.

President Donald Trump just made it clear who he believes is next in line to carry the torch of the Make America Great Again movement: Vice President JD Vance.
Speaking Tuesday at the South Court Auditorium during the signing of an executive order establishing a task force for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Trump responded to a question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy about the future of MAGA leadership. Doocy noted that Trump has ruled out a third term and asked if Vance was now the presumptive favorite to lead the GOP into the next era.
“You could clear the entire Republican field right now,” Doocy said.
“Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?”
Trump’s answer was telling. “Well, I think most likely,” Trump said. “In all fairness, he’s the vice president... And he would be probably favored at this point.”
Trump also floated the idea of Secretary of State Marco Rubio teaming up with Vance in some capacity, calling Rubio “somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form.”
Vance has emerged as one of the strongest and most authentic voices in the America First movement. Since joining the ticket, he’s delivered hard-hitting speeches on foreign policy, border security, and American manufacturing pushing a bold agenda that appeals to both working-class voters and traditional conservatives.
Here’s why Vance is MAGA’s next leader-in-waiting:
He represents middle America and speaks the language of the forgotten men and women Trump galvanized in 2016.
He’s pro-worker, anti-globalist, and unapologetically pro-American.
He’s already shown he can hold his own on the world stage and inside the Beltway.
Senator-turned-Secretary Marco Rubio, once a Trump rival, echoed the president’s sentiment last month, telling Lara Trump on Fox News that he fully supports a potential Vance run “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that.”
Rubio praised Vance’s performance as vice president and made it clear that he’s content serving in the Cabinet under President Trump a sign of unity that’s rare in politics and even rarer in post-Trump speculation circles.
While President Trump reiterated it’s still “too early” to talk 2028 in definitive terms, the signal is clear JD Vance is the man to watch.
And if Trump’s endorsement power in past primaries is any indication, a nod from the 45th and possibly 47th President all but guarantees Vance walks into 2028 with massive momentum.
The future of MAGA doesn’t need to be invented. It’s already here and its name is JD Vance.
