Trump Moves to Finalize Minerals Deal With Ukraine
Agreement set to be signed after Zelensky backtracks on failed White House meeting.

The United States and Ukraine are reportedly on the verge of signing a crucial minerals deal, an agreement that was supposed to be finalized last week before President Donald Trump’s tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky derailed negotiations. Now, with Zelensky publicly backtracking and signaling a willingness to cooperate, Trump appears ready to move forward.
According to Reuters, Trump wants the deal signed before his address to Congress on Tuesday night so he can announce it as part of his administration’s strategy to secure America’s economic and national security interests. However, sources indicate that plans could still change.
Zelensky’s newfound willingness to finalize the agreement comes after his disastrous White House meeting with Trump, during which the Ukrainian leader was reportedly dismissed from the room. Following that encounter, Zelensky has softened his rhetoric, now claiming Ukraine is eager to negotiate peace and work “under President Trump’s strong leadership.”
Zelensky proposed an initial ceasefire, including bans on missiles and drone strikes, if Russia agrees to the same conditions.
He expressed gratitude for past U.S. support, notably crediting Trump for providing Ukraine with Javelins.
While acknowledging that the White House meeting “did not go the way it was supposed to,” he stopped short of offering a public apology something Trump allies say the president expects.
The minerals deal is expected to strengthen U.S. access to critical resources while offering Ukraine economic stability. It remains unclear whether the terms of the agreement have changed following last week’s fallout.
Trump’s ability to secure this deal would mark a significant win for American industry and economic security while reinforcing his position as a leader who demands results. As always, Trump is proving that the days of unchecked U.S. handouts to foreign nations are over agreements must benefit America first.
