On the eve of Election Day, former President Donald Trump made a bold promise: a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports unless Mexico curbs the flow of migrants illegally crossing the U.S. border. Addressing a crowd in North Carolina, a key battleground state, Trump declared this policy would take effect "on day one or sooner" of his presidency.

Trump emphasized the urgency of the border crisis, which has surged under the Biden-Harris administration, and asserted that his proposed tariff strategy has a “100% chance of working.” He warned that if Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, fails to act, the tariffs would escalate dramatically potentially reaching as high as 100%.

“They think they’re going to make their cars there and they’re going to sell them across our line without paying tax? Not happening,” Trump declared, promising that the steep tariff would make foreign-made cars “unsellable” in the U.S.
