Trump Freezes Global Tariffs for 90 Days Except China

President Donald Trump has once again proven that strength and strategy go hand in hand. On Wednesday, he announced a bold 90-day pause on global tariffs except for one notable exception China.

Effective immediately, tariffs on foreign imports will be reduced to 10% across the board, a sharp drop from the previous rates. The only country left out of this generous pause? Communist China, which is now being hit with a 125% tariff, the highest yet in the ongoing trade battle.

The reason is simple. While over 75 countries have stepped forward in recent weeks to begin constructive trade talks, China has chosen escalation and deception.

• Trump’s answer: raise it further and make clear that “the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable.”

• The stock market immediately responded to Trump’s leadership S&P 500 surged 5.7%, the Dow rose 5%, and Nasdaq jumped nearly 7% within hours of the announcement.

Trump’s measured strategy has paid off. Nations that didn’t retaliate are now benefiting from this tariff freeze. As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said at Wednesday’s press briefing, “Do not retaliate and you will be rewarded.” This is the art of the deal in real time.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick echoed the sentiment on X, praising Trump’s leadership and stating that “the world is ready to work with President Trump to fix global trade.” Meanwhile, China remains the outlier choosing aggression over negotiation, and isolation over opportunity.

This move cements Trump’s status as the only leader with the courage and clarity to stand up to Beijing’s manipulation while opening the door for fair and reciprocal trade with willing partners. Unlike the Biden administration’s chaotic, apologetic global posture, Trump’s strategy is simple reward those who act in good faith, punish those who don’t.

China has long counted on American weakness. They’re now learning that under President Trump, those days are over. And the world is taking notice.
