Trump Signs Order Cracking Down on Ticket Scalping

The president takes direct action to protect fans from outrageous resale prices and deceptive practices.

President Donald Trump is once again stepping up where others have failed this time putting an end to one of the most frustrating rip-offs in entertainment: ticket scalping. On Monday, Trump signed an executive order targeting the shady world of online ticket resellers who use bots and deceptive practices to gouge fans and rig the system.

Flanked by music icon and outspoken patriot Kid Rock, Trump declared war on the ticket resale industry that has hijacked live entertainment. The order pushes the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice to partner with state attorneys general to enforce existing laws, crack down on bots, and hold profiteering scalpers accountable.

Here’s what Trump’s executive order sets in motion:

  • Enforces the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act, which bans the use of automated software that snatches up tickets before real fans have a chance.

  • Promotes price transparency at all stages of ticket purchases, including resale markets, ensuring fans know what they’re paying for without hidden fees or last-minute markups.

  • Targets deceptive and anti-competitive conduct that dominates secondary markets, where prices are often inflated by 400–500%.

Kid Rock nailed it when he said, “If you buy a ticket for 100 bucks, by the time you check out, it’s 170.” He added that artists see none of the profits when bots resell tickets at obscene prices, calling the system “a conundrum” that hurts both performers and their fans.

Trump echoed those concerns, saying, “It bothers him, it bothers a lot of other artists too.” This move fulfills a campaign promise Trump made last year when he vowed to tackle the skyrocketing cost of concert tickets and stop the scam.

It’s no surprise that Trump, a businessman who understands fair competition, would be the one to take this problem seriously. Scalpers and bots have long prevented everyday Americans from getting affordable tickets to their favorite concerts and events. With this executive order, Trump is once again standing up for working Americans not special interests.

And the industry is taking note. Live Nation Entertainment applauded the move, stating it supports stronger enforcement of the BOTS Act and pricing caps to keep tickets accessible to real fans.

While the Biden administration has been too busy ignoring inflation, surging crime, and the crisis at the border, President Trump is tackling real issues that affect real people. Americans are fed up with being ripped off and now they finally have someone in the White House who gets it.
