Trump’s Executive Order Hits Steel and Aluminum Imports with Tariffs

New executive order cracks down on foreign dumping and boosts U.S. manufacturing.

President Donald Trump took decisive action on Monday to safeguard American jobs and industry, signing two executive orders that impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. This latest move is aimed at halting foreign exploitation of U.S. markets and rebuilding America’s manufacturing base.

The new tariffs include:

  • A 25% tariff on aluminum imports, up from the 10% Trump initially imposed in 2018.

  • A 25% tariff on steel imports, targeting products that previously entered duty-free through exemptions and quota deals.

“This is a big deal,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “Making America rich again.”

For years, foreign nations most notably China have manipulated trade agreements, flooded the market with cheap metals, and undercut American workers. Trump’s senior trade advisor, Peter Navarro, made it clear that these new tariffs are designed to end foreign dumping, boost domestic production, and secure critical industries.

“The steel and aluminum tariffs 2.0 will put an end to foreign dumping, boost domestic production, and secure our steel and aluminum industries, the backbone and pillar industries of America’s economic and national security,” Navarro said.

White House officials echoed the message, stressing that Trump’s actions will revive America’s manufacturing sector and prevent competitors from abusing loopholes in the system.

“With these tariffs, the days of foreign nations gaming our trade system are over,” said one administration official.

The Trump administration’s decisive action stands in direct contrast to the failed policies of Joe Biden, whose weak trade stance allowed countries like China, Russia, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union to manipulate trade agreements and cripple U.S. industry.

While Biden focused on appeasing global elites, Trump is focused on revitalizing American jobs. These tariffs will:

  • Encourage domestic investment in steel and aluminum production.

  • Strengthen national security by reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.

  • Ensure fair competition for American manufacturers.

With this move, Trump is once again proving that he stands with American workers not foreign interests. The message is clear: America First is back in full force.
