Trump Slams DNC for Naming Biden as Nominee in Outdated Platform
Former president calls out Democrats for "hilarious incompetence" over unchanged platform.
Former President Donald Trump didn’t mince words on Monday, taking aim at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for its newly released platform that still refers to President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee—despite Biden dropping out of the race last month. Trump criticized the DNC's apparent oversight, saying it shows that the platform is not a priority for the Democrats.
The DNC released the 92-page platform on Sunday, just days after its Platform Committee approved it. Despite Biden’s exit from the race and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris on July 21, the document repeatedly references Biden as running for a second term. Trump seized on this mistake, writing on Truth Social, “In the JUST RELEASED Democrat Platform, they mention Crooked Joe Biden’s ‘second Term’ over 20 times. It shows that the Platform is not that important to them when they won’t even make the change.”
The platform's language reflects Biden’s agenda, stating, “In President Biden’s second term, he will push Congress to pass legislation consistent with our values as a nation. Legislation must secure the border, reform the asylum system, expand legal immigration; and keep families together by supporting a pathway for long-term undocumented individuals, improving the work authorization process, and securing the future of the DACA program.”
Biden, who is set to deliver the keynote address at the convention in Chicago, officially stepped down from the race last month. However, his name and policies remain at the forefront of the DNC platform, which appears to suggest that Harris will continue Biden’s legacy if she wins the presidency. This assumption has not gone unnoticed, particularly among Republicans who have criticized Harris for her lack of transparency and policy details during her campaign. The Harris campaign website still lacks a policy platform or a clear list of issues that she intends to address as a candidate.
The Trump campaign also chimed in, mocking the Democrats for what it described as "hilarious incompetence." A post on X from the Trump team noted, “In the just released Democrat Party platform, ‘Biden’s second term’ appears a grand total of 19 times. It’s hilarious incompetence but it’s also the truth. Kamala’s presidency would be a Biden second term. A continuation of his broken economy, broken border, and broken world.”
The 2024 DNC platform is heavily focused on issues such as the economy, health care, housing, and what it calls the "climate crisis." It also includes a vow to restore pro-abortion laws in every state, reflecting the party's ongoing commitment to these key issues. However, the continued mention of Biden as the nominee has raised questions about the DNC’s preparedness and attention to detail as the campaign heats up.
