Trump Criticizes Biden's DNC Speech: 'Full of Anger and Falsehoods'
The former president calls out Biden's false claims and misleading rhetoric.
Former President Donald Trump wasted no time in criticizing President Joe Biden’s Monday night speech at the Democratic National Convention, describing it as an “angry and ranting” tirade filled with falsehoods. Biden, who didn’t take the stage until after 11:00 p.m. ET due to delays, was visibly struggling at times, particularly when he stumbled over the word "electoral." Trump, quick to capitalize on the moment, shared a clip of the gaffe on Truth Social, where he highlighted what he called Biden's blatant lies.
“An angry and ranting Speech full of LIES,” Trump wrote. “Biden took credit for everything done during the Trump Administration, even continuing to say that he was better on Inflation and Jobs.” Trump further criticized Biden for not addressing key issues, such as the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the surge in global conflicts during his presidency. He also pointed out that more Americans died from COVID-19 under Biden's watch than during Trump's term.
Trump was particularly scathing in his response to Biden’s economic claims. Biden had boasted that his administration had overseen "one of the most extraordinary four years of progress ever," citing 16 million new jobs, record small business growth, and declining inflation. Trump, however, was quick to dismantle these assertions, pointing out that many of those jobs were merely a "COVID bounce-back" as businesses reopened after the pandemic lockdowns, a phenomenon seen in many countries, not a unique achievement of Biden’s policies.
“Most new jobs under Biden went to illegal immigrants,” Trump countered, adding that Biden’s economic success was overstated and largely inherited from the recovery initiated during the Trump administration. He also noted that the current unemployment rate under Biden is higher than it was before COVID hit the U.S., further undermining Biden's narrative of economic triumph.
Trump also took issue with Biden’s claim that border crossings have decreased under his administration. Biden stated that due to his executive actions, border encounters have dropped by over 50%, a claim Trump called out as blatantly false. In reality, border apprehensions and encounters have reached record highs during Biden's tenure, contradicting the president's optimistic portrayal.
Biden’s speech, much like the other addresses on the first night of the DNC, largely focused on attacking Trump, attempting to paint him as a threat to the nation. “He talks about America being a failing nation. He says we’re losing. He’s the loser,” Biden said, continuing the administration’s strategy of deflecting blame onto Trump for the country's current challenges.
As the 2024 election campaign intensifies, Trump's sharp rebuke of Biden’s speech underscores the deep divisions between the two camps. With Biden aiming to secure a second term and Trump positioning himself as the GOP's best chance to reclaim the White House, the battle for the presidency is shaping up to be as contentious as ever.
