Trump Praises Rubio as Greatest Secretary of State After Hostage Deal

From political rivals to historic allies, Trump and Rubio prove leadership still matters in securing peace.

In a moment that blended humor, history, and high-stakes diplomacy, President Donald Trump on Monday praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his pivotal role in brokering a groundbreaking agreement between Israel and Hamas one that led to the release of all remaining living hostages.

Speaking to a standing ovation before Israel’s Knesset, Trump didn't miss the opportunity to reflect on the pair’s rocky past during the 2016 Republican primary, playfully ribbing Rubio while giving him one of the highest compliments imaginable.

“Who the hell thought this was gonna happen, Marco?” Trump joked, drawing laughter and applause. “And he and I, we really fought it out [in 2016]! You remember. He was tough! He was nasty!”

The president then pivoted to a sincere note. “I have a prediction. Marco will go down, I mean this, as the greatest Secretary of State in the history of the United States.”

That’s a bold statement and one that’s hard to dismiss after Rubio’s instrumental work in securing the release of hostages held by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hamas, following a conflict that has left the Middle East on edge for months.

Rubio, addressing the Gaza Summit in Egypt shortly after the historic deal, didn’t hold back on the moment’s significance:

“This is clearly in my mind and I think in the mind of everyone in this room probably one of the most important days for world peace in 50 years, and that’s not an exaggeration.”

While legacy media and the left obsess over optics and political missteps, the Trump administration is getting results ones that matter. This hostage release is not just a political victory; it's a major step forward in global diplomacy and a clear rejection of the weak, apologetic foreign policy that defined the Biden years.

Let’s not forget:

  • Under Biden, Iran was emboldened, receiving billions in sanctioned relief and using it to fund terror proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.

  • In 2022 alone, Iran’s military budget jumped by nearly 25%, directly benefiting their overseas terror operations.

  • Hostage situations under Democrat leadership have dragged on with no resolution think of the countless Americans left behind in Afghanistan in 2021.

Contrast that with what happened this week. The Trump-Rubio partnership brought home every last living hostage. That’s not just diplomacy it’s leadership with backbone.

As we look toward the 2024 election, Americans should ask themselves: Do we want more chaos and capitulation from a Democrat administration, or do we want bold leadership that delivers?
