Trump Urges Putin to Halt Kyiv Bombings as Peace Deal Hangs in the Balance

With peace talks on the brink, Trump calls out Putin and Zelensky for prolonging a war the world wants ended.

President Donald Trump is once again doing what Joe Biden never could calling out global leaders directly and pushing for peace. Following a deadly Russian missile and drone barrage on Kyiv early Thursday morning, Trump issued a forceful message to Vladimir Putin: “Vladimir, STOP!”

The overnight assault killed at least eight people and injured 70 more, including six children and a pregnant woman. It marked the deadliest Russian strike on Ukraine’s capital since last summer, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time just as Trump’s administration is trying to mediate a long-overdue peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv.

“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Over 70 missiles and 140 drones were launched by Russia in the middle-of-the-night assault. Ukraine’s air defense managed to shoot down 48 missiles and 64 drones, but the damage was done. First responders are still digging through rubble, trying to reach survivors whose phones can be heard ringing beneath collapsed buildings.

The Trump administration’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Putin in Moscow this week, but the Kremlin’s latest show of aggression could jeopardize those plans. Trump, along with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has made it clear: if there’s no serious progress in talks, the U.S. is prepared to walk away.

Let’s be honest Trump is the only leader treating this conflict with the urgency it demands. While Biden spent years sending blank checks to Ukraine with no accountability, Trump is trying to bring both sides to the table even if it means speaking hard truths.

This week, Trump also took Zelensky to task. After the Ukrainian president repeated his refusal to recognize Russia’s occupation of Crimea, Trump responded: “Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion.”

He didn’t stop there: “He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country,” Trump said. “I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever.”

That’s real leadership.

Biden’s approach has been nothing but posturing, virtue-signaling, and throwing billions in taxpayer money at a never-ending war. Meanwhile, Trump is the only adult in the room telling both Putin and Zelensky what needs to be said, and fighting to end this bloodshed.

As Ben Shapiro reported from Kyiv this week during an exclusive sit-down with Zelensky, America’s patience is running out, and Ukraine needs to start showing a real commitment to peace not more war rhetoric.

It’s time for this war to end. Trump sees that. America sees that. And it’s time the world catches up.
