Trump Announces Immediate Ceasefire Talks After Candid Call With Putin
After two years of war and $350 billion wasted, Trump takes charge to finally stop the bloodshed in Ukraine.

President Donald Trump has once again done what the Biden administration never could move the world one step closer to peace.
Following a “very frank” two-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump announced Monday that Russia and Ukraine will begin immediate ceasefire negotiations a major breakthrough in a war that has drained U.S. taxpayers and cost tens of thousands of lives.
“The tone and spirit of the conversation was excellent,” Trump said, adding, “Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”
Trump’s direct diplomacy is in stark contrast to years of incompetence and delay under Biden. While Democrats poured $350 billion into Ukraine without a shred of accountability, Trump is focused on results saving lives, stopping the bloodbath, and restoring stability.
Some key takeaways:
Trump confirmed speaking with Ukrainian President Zelensky, top European leaders, and Pope Leo XIV, who has offered for the Vatican to host negotiations.
Putin praised the call as “very useful,” and reaffirmed Russia’s support for a peaceful resolution.
Vice President JD Vance added that the U.S. is “more than willing to walk away” if progress isn’t made, signaling that Trump won’t let America be exploited in endless foreign conflicts.
The timing of the call is significant. Just hours earlier, Russia launched a large-scale drone attack, deploying 216 drones across Ukrainian regions. While the attack was repelled, it underlined just how dangerous and unsustainable the war has become.
“We’re losing over 5,000 soldiers a week between both sides. That’s a bloodbath, and it has to stop,” Trump warned. “This war should have never happened.”
And he’s right.
Biden’s policy of blank-check funding and zero strategic direction has led to:
Over $350 billion in untracked aid with no measurable results
Multiple failed peace opportunities
A growing European divide over how to handle Putin
Even worse, Trump noted, Zelensky “walked away with $100 billion” on multiple visits to the U.S. “That’s a good salesman,” Trump joked. “Last time he didn’t do as well. He only got $60 billion.”
It’s a pointed reminder that under Biden, the American taxpayer became Ukraine’s ATM and got nothing in return.
This new ceasefire push is the first real sign of progress since the early days of the war. The last official negotiation between the two nations happened in March 2022. Now, Trump has reopened the door and he did it without sending more troops, spending more money, or begging our enemies.
Make no mistake: This is what real leadership looks like.
For nearly two years, Washington’s ruling class has blindly followed Biden’s lead, refusing to admit what the American people already knew this war is not ours, and we’ve paid enough.
Now, thanks to Trump, the road to peace might finally be in sight.
