Trump Nominates Harmeet Dhillon to Defend Constitutional Rights at DOJ

Prominent attorney to lead civil rights division, taking on Big Tech and woke policies.

President-elect Donald Trump has announced the nomination of attorney Harmeet Dhillon to serve as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in his upcoming administration. The announcement underscores Trump’s commitment to restoring constitutional rights, combating government overreach, and holding corporations accountable for discriminatory practices.

In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump praised Dhillon’s legal expertise and unwavering commitment to civil liberties. “Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished civil liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring free speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying during COVID, and suing corporations using woke policies to discriminate against workers,” Trump wrote.

A Champion for Civil Rights

Dhillon, founder of The Dhillon Law Group, has a record of defending conservative causes:

  • Free Speech: Dhillon has fought against Big Tech censorship, a major focus for Trump’s administration.

  • COVID Mandates: Her firm successfully challenged pandemic-era restrictions that infringed on religious freedoms, including the Supreme Court case blocking the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for private employers.

  • Election Integrity: Known as one of the country’s top election lawyers, Dhillon has fought tirelessly to ensure that “all, and ONLY, legal votes are counted,” as Trump emphasized in his announcement.

A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law, Dhillon clerked in the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and is a respected member of the Sikh religious community.

Dhillon Responds

Dhillon shared her gratitude in a post on X, expressing her honor and enthusiasm for the nomination. “It has been my dream to be able to serve our great country, and I am so excited to be part of an incredible team of lawyers led by [Pam Bondi],” she wrote. Bondi, Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, is expected to spearhead the administration’s legal agenda.

Dhillon also paid tribute to her family’s support, crediting her late father and husband for inspiring her journey. “I hope I will honor their memories, with God’s grace,” she added.

A Key Appointment for Trump’s Agenda

Dhillon’s appointment signals Trump’s intent to confront challenges to Americans’ constitutional rights head-on. Her leadership in the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division will likely focus on key issues such as safeguarding free speech, protecting religious freedoms, and ensuring election integrity.

Trump’s decision to elevate Dhillon to a high-profile role reflects a broader effort to restore fairness and firmness to the enforcement of civil rights laws.
