China Hawk Nominated by Trump to Protect U.S. Manufacturing and Agriculture

Jamieson Greer tapped as U.S. Trade Representative to champion pro-America policies in the global market.

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Jamieson Greer, a staunch advocate for American manufacturing and agriculture, to serve as the next U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) in his incoming administration. Greer’s nomination reflects Trump’s commitment to tough trade policies and protecting U.S. industries from unfair foreign practices, particularly from China.

Greer played a pivotal role in Trump’s first term as chief of staff to then-USTR Bob Lighthizer. He was instrumental in key trade victories, including imposing tariffs on China to address unfair trade practices and negotiating the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which replaced the outdated NAFTA.

“Jamieson played a key role during my First Term in imposing Tariffs on China and others to combat unfair Trade practices,” Trump said in a statement. “His efforts helped spur the return of Manufacturing jobs to America and reverse decades of disastrous Trade policies.”

Trump highlighted Greer’s priorities for the role, stating he would focus on reducing the nation’s trade deficit, defending American manufacturing and agriculture, and opening export markets to benefit U.S. workers.

Greer, known for his hawkish stance on China, is expected to build on the policies of his predecessor. His track record underscores a willingness to challenge Beijing’s economic aggression, from intellectual property theft to currency manipulation, while working to protect domestic industries.

  • Educational and Professional Background: Greer earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and served in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps, including a deployment to Iraq.

  • Reputation: Colleagues praise his expertise and dedication to advancing America’s interests on the global stage.

Greer’s nomination has garnered widespread support among Republican lawmakers who see him as a critical ally in pursuing Trump’s America First trade agenda.

  • Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): “Jamieson Greer is an extraordinary choice… he will work to make trade deals that put America FIRST!”

  • Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL): “Another great pick by President Trump! Jamieson Greer will combat the threat of Communist China and bolster American manufacturing.”

  • Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA): “I look forward to working together to advance a pro-America, pro-manufacturing, and pro-job agenda.”

Greer’s nomination underscores Trump’s focus on revitalizing American manufacturing, safeguarding agriculture, and taking a hard line against economic competitors like China. His track record and shared vision with Trump’s policies make him well-positioned to defend American workers and industries in an increasingly competitive global economy.

As confirmation hearings approach, Greer’s potential leadership could mark another chapter in Trump’s fight to put America first in international trade.
