Trump and NFL Announce 2027 Draft at National Mall

With football surging in Washington and crime falling under Trump’s leadership, D.C. prepares to host one of America’s biggest cultural events.

President Donald Trump and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made a historic announcement on Monday the 2027 NFL Draft will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The moment marks not just a major win for football fans, but a cultural and economic milestone for a capital city finally being revitalized after years of decline.

“The draft is a celebration of one of our country’s most cherished cultural institutions,” Trump said. “Everyone in the world is going to be watching.”

Standing beside Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, D.C. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Trump celebrated what he called a “huge win for Washington” and for good reason. The NFL Draft is no longer just a sports event. It’s an economic juggernaut.

  • Detroit drew 775,000 fans to its draft in 2024, pumping over $200 million into the local economy.

  • Green Bay followed with 600,000 attendees, confirming the event’s status as a tourism and media powerhouse.

  • Goodell expects D.C. to break records, forecasting over 1 million visitors across three days.

The announcement comes as professional football is enjoying a resurgence in the nation’s capital. The Washington Commanders, under young star quarterback Jayden Daniels, reached the NFC Championship game, and the team is set to return to its rightful home in D.C. in 2030 with a brand-new domed stadium at the site of the old RFK.

President Trump has strongly backed the stadium deal, calling it:

“A HUGE WIN for Washington, D.C., and for the Team’s incredible fan base. It will also boost Economic Development, create more Jobs and, hopefully, lead to less Crime in the area.”

That’s the Trump difference. While Democrats ran D.C. into the ground with soft-on-crime policies and bureaucratic bloat, Trump is restoring pride, safety, and opportunity in the capital through bold leadership and cultural revitalization. Hosting the NFL Draft at the National Mall, surrounded by the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and U.S. Capitol, is more than symbolic it’s proof that under Trump, America’s greatness is once again on display.

As Goodell noted:

“It will not just be an event. It will be something that will show the world how far the nation’s capital has come and where it’s going.”

Exactly right. Football is back in D.C., but more importantly, so is American spirit. Trump is turning a once-struggling city into a showcase of national pride, economic momentum, and cultural unity.
