Trump Authorizes 100% Tariff on Foreign Films to Revive U.S. Movie Industry

Calling Hollywood’s decline a national security threat, Trump vows to bring movie production back home and end foreign influence in American storytelling.

President Donald Trump is taking direct aim at the globalist stranglehold on American culture this time by slapping a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films in a move designed to revive the dying U.S. movie industry and shield it from foreign propaganda.

In a Sunday evening announcement posted to Truth Social, Trump didn’t mince words:

“The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death,” he wrote. “Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States… This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat.”

Trump’s response? A bold directive to the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative: institute a 100% tariff on all movies produced outside of the United States.

“WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”

It’s not just about money it’s about messaging. Trump called out the increasing foreign influence on what Americans see on screen, warning that it goes far beyond economics. “It is… messaging and propaganda!” he wrote.

And he’s right.

  • A growing number of major blockbusters, including entries in the “Mission: Impossible” and “Avatar” franchises, are being filmed overseas to exploit foreign tax breaks and cheap labor.

  • The global box office is increasingly dictated by countries like China, which censors scripts, controls distribution, and demands ideological conformity in exchange for market access.

  • Meanwhile, U.S. production jobs are vanishing, with states like California losing billions as studios outsource to Eastern Europe, Canada, and Asia.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who traveled with Trump to Washington, responded with a firm message: “We’re on it.”

This policy follows Trump’s already historic series of tariffs during his second term. Just last month, his “Liberation Day” initiative slapped a 10% tariff on most global imports, escalating China’s rate to 145% after their retaliatory trade moves. Now, with Hollywood in the crosshairs, Trump is drawing a clear line in the sand: American culture should be made in America by Americans.

Of course, predictably, the Left is already panicking. Democrats and a few spineless Republicans are hand-wringing about “constitutional overreach” and “economic fallout,” ignoring the fact that they sat silent while Hollywood was hollowed out by foreign studios and hijacked by globalist interests.

Trump’s plan is simple: defend American workers, defend American values, and bring our creative industries back home. This is about more than box office numbers it’s about national identity and cultural sovereignty. Hollywood may be hostile to Trump, but even they can’t ignore the fact that their industry is collapsing under its own political weight and global outsourcing.

This is what leadership looks like proactive, unapologetic, and rooted in putting America First in every industry, including entertainment.
