New Resolution Would Let Trump Use Military Force Against Mexican Cartels
With cartels flooding the U.S. with drugs and violence, Congress moves to empower Trump to crush them with America’s full military might.

In a bold move to restore law and order at America’s southern border, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) has introduced a resolution that would grant President Donald Trump full military authority to take on nine of the world’s most dangerous drug cartels operating out of Mexico.
The resolution doesn't mince words. These cartels have “violated the territorial integrity of the United States” and now pose a “clear and evident danger” to American lives, safety, and sovereignty. And it’s about time someone took the threat seriously.
“Until such time that the Mexican government finally steps up and squashes the drug cartels… Congress must give President Trump and Secretary Hegseth the green light to take a sledgehammer to these criminal networks,” Steube said.
Let’s be clear: this is no longer just a foreign problem. The cartels are deeply entrenched inside U.S. cities, trafficking fentanyl, controlling human smuggling routes, and coordinating violent operations from outside the country.
Some facts that put this crisis into perspective:
Over 100,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year the majority linked to fentanyl that originates in cartel-run labs in Mexico.
Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang tied to the cartels, has rapidly expanded across the U.S., especially in soft-on-crime Democrat-run cities like Denver and New York.
MS-13 and other transnational gangs have been responsible for countless murders, human trafficking rings, and drug smuggling operations directly impacting American communities.
Under Trump’s leadership, the fight against these groups has already ramped up. His State Department recently designated eight of the worst cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, cutting off their access to U.S. financial networks and tightening the legal noose around their operations.
But now, this resolution goes a step further authorizing the use of the U.S. military to take the fight directly to the source.
The resolution declares that it is official U.S. policy to totally eliminate these organizations' presence within our borders and dismantle their ability to operate internationally. That means targeting not just cartel foot soldiers, but their command-and-control centers in Mexico, and doing it with the full weight of American firepower.
Of course, the left is already trying to block Trump from doing what’s necessary. A D.C. federal judge recently ruled against Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to fast-track the removal of cartel-linked gang members, claiming it’s “outside of the typical wartime context.”
But make no mistake we are in a war, and it's one the American people never voted for. Drug overdoses, human trafficking, and unchecked border chaos aren’t just side effects they're the consequences of Democrat inaction and open-border policies.
With Trump back at the helm and Republicans in Congress stepping up, this resolution could be the turning point in a decades-long fight. It’s time to unleash the full force of American strength and secure our nation once and for all.
