Trump Humorously Suggests Sending 90k IRS Staff to the Border

During a rally in Las Vegas over the weekend, President Donald Trump humorously proposed a bold solution to both border security and bureaucratic bloat: reassigning nearly 90,000 new IRS agents hired under President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act to patrol the southern border.

“They hired, or tried to hire, 88,000 workers to go after you,” Trump quipped to a cheering crowd at the Circa Resort & Casino. “We’re in the process of developing a plan to either terminate all of them or maybe we’ll move them to the border.”

Trump’s comments drew laughter and applause as he doubled down on his pledge to eliminate the unnecessary hiring spurred by the Biden administration’s expansive IRS funding. He even joked about the agents’ ability to carry firearms. “You know, they’re so strong on guns. But these people are allowed to carry guns. So we will probably move them to the border,” he said, highlighting the absurdity of Biden’s priorities.

On his first day back in office, Trump issued an executive order freezing federal civilian hiring for 90 days, with exceptions for roles related to immigration enforcement, national security, and public safety. The move underscores his administration’s focus on efficiency and reallocation of resources to address critical issues, like securing the southern border.

“This order does not apply to military personnel of the armed forces or to positions related to immigration enforcement, national security, or public safety,” the executive order stated. The directive also safeguards essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans’ benefits.

The Inflation Reduction Act provided $80 billion in additional funding to the IRS, including $46 billion for enforcement, according to the Tax Policy Center. The rest was earmarked for operations, modernizing systems, and taxpayer services. Republicans have fiercely opposed this expansion, arguing that it bloats government and targets hardworking Americans.

Trump’s lighthearted suggestion to repurpose the IRS hires aligns with his broader critique of misplaced Democratic priorities, such as empowering bureaucrats while neglecting border security.

Trump’s remarks highlight the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, which has been plagued by record-breaking illegal crossings under Biden’s weak immigration policies. By redirecting attention to the border, Trump is reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting American sovereignty and safety.

The rally also served as a reminder of Trump’s approach to governance: cutting waste, prioritizing security, and putting America first. His proposed solution, though tongue-in-cheek, emphasizes the stark contrast between his administration’s goals and the bloated inefficiency of the Biden era.
