Trump Brokers Ceasefire Between Nuclear Rivals India and Pakistan

In a decisive display of leadership, President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that his administration successfully brokered a full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan, bringing a dangerous standoff between two nuclear-armed nations to a halt.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who led the negotiations alongside Vice President JD Vance, confirmed the breakthrough. In a statement on X, Rubio detailed that both sides have not only agreed to cease hostilities but will begin formal peace talks at a neutral location.

Key details from the Rubio-Vance effort include:

• Direct talks with top leadership: Over 48 hours, Rubio and Vance communicated with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as military and security heads from both nations.

• A focus on diplomacy: Both sides have agreed to broader negotiations on the root causes of conflict, signaling a rare opportunity for lasting peace in the region.

• De-escalation of a crisis: The announcement immediately halted skirmishes that had followed a terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians.

The crisis began with a brutal April 22 terror attack in the disputed Indian region of Jammu & Kashmir. Indian officials reported the attackers had ties to Pakistani groups, specifically targeting Hindus in the region. Predictably, Pakistan denied involvement, as tensions quickly spiraled into border firefights, tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions, and even a suspended water treaty.

India launched strikes against what it described as terrorist planning sites. Pakistan, meanwhile, accused India of bombing civilian zones and causing child casualties — a classic play for global sympathy, without offering any proof.
