Trump Unveils Golden Dome Missile Defense Plan
$175 billion system aims to shield America from global missile threats and complete Reagan’s vision.

President Donald Trump is making missile defense great again unveiling details of his ambitious “Golden Dome” initiative, a next-generation missile defense system designed to protect the United States from hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missile threats, including those launched from space.
Speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump said the $175 billion project is already in development and is expected to be operational before the end of his term. It’s one of the largest defense investments in decades and one that promises to finally deliver the kind of homeland protection President Reagan envisioned with his Strategic Defense Initiative 40 years ago.
“We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started… forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland,” Trump said. “Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they are launched from the other side of the world, and even if they are launched from space.”
The Golden Dome will receive its first $25 billion from Trump’s “one, big, beautiful bill” now moving through Congress, which includes sweeping reforms and investments in national security, tax relief, and America First infrastructure.
Here’s what we know about the project:
The Golden Dome will use space-based interceptors and advanced sensors, providing 360-degree, multi-domain protection against incoming threats.
Construction will occur in phases, focusing first on areas deemed most vulnerable to enemy missile attacks.
The system will integrate U.S. Space Command, Northern Command, and NORAD, ensuring seamless coordination between air, land, sea, and space assets.
General Michael Guetlein, the Space Force leader chosen to spearhead the project, warned that the threat environment has changed rapidly. “Our adversaries have been quickly modernizing their nuclear forces and building hypersonic missiles capable of attacking the United States within an hour,” he said. “We have to stay ahead.”
Canada has already expressed interest in joining the program, according to Trump, and would contribute its “fair share” a notable shift from the NATO freeloading of the past. The president emphasized this is not just about America’s security but redefining the global defense paradigm around strength, deterrence, and preparedness.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, flanking Trump during the announcement, praised the project’s strategic importance. He said the Golden Dome will be a layered defense system that restores deterrence and guarantees that no rogue regime or foreign enemy can hold the U.S. homeland hostage with missile threats.
While critics in the media and political establishment are already clutching their pearls over the price tag, the reality is simple: $175 billion to secure the entire U.S. population from nuclear and hypersonic attacks is a small price to pay in an increasingly unstable world.
Compare this bold plan to the Biden years of drone losses, Chinese spy balloons, and missile gaps. Trump isn’t just talking about national security he’s building it, with concrete goals, defined leadership, and unwavering vision.
And once again, it’s a reminder that peace through strength is more than a slogan it’s a policy that works.
