Trump Says Gaza Ceasefire Still Holding as Hamas Breaks Terms
Despite fresh attacks from terrorists, Trump signals patience while Israel strikes back at Hamas targets.

President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday night that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is technically still intact despite fresh rocket fire, terrorist ambushes, and Israel’s justified military response over the weekend.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump made it clear he is monitoring the situation closely, while acknowledging that some elements within Hamas are not honoring the agreement.
“We want to make sure that it’s going to be very peaceful with Hamas,” Trump said. “They’ve been quite rambunctious. We think maybe the leadership isn’t involved in that. Some rebels within but either way, it’s going to be handled properly. Toughly, but properly.”
The president’s remarks came just hours after two Israeli soldiers were killed by Hamas terrorists in Rafah, southern Gaza. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched precision strikes targeting tunnel shafts, weapons depots, terrorist cells, and firing positions all of which violate the ceasefire agreement.
According to the IDF:
Terrorists fired anti-tank missiles and small arms at Israeli troops working to dismantle Hamas infrastructure.
Israel responded by eliminating six kilometers of underground tunnels and neutralizing multiple terrorist targets.
The IDF confirmed the strikes were focused on military assets, not civilians.
Vice President JD Vance, who is expected to travel to Israel this week, backed Trump’s cautious but firm approach. He reminded reporters that Hamas is a fractured network of 40-plus cells, many of which may not be coordinated with so-called “central command.”
“Some of those cells will probably honor the ceasefire. Many will not,” Vance said. “Before we can ensure Hamas is properly disarmed, it’s going to require help from Gulf Arab states to establish law and order.”
Vance also warned Americans to expect “fits and starts” in the coming days, as Israel continues to respond to violations while attempting to uphold its end of the ceasefire.
But let’s be clear: Israel is under constant threat. And while the Biden administration once labeled Israel’s self-defense efforts as “disproportionate,” the Trump administration has never wavered in recognizing Israel’s right and duty to defend its people.
The media will no doubt frame these latest events as signs that the ceasefire is collapsing. But in reality, this is exactly what leadership looks like a clear line that says peace is the goal, but strength will not be sacrificed to appease terrorists.
Trump’s firm but measured stance, combined with Vice President Vance’s boots-on-the-ground diplomacy, sends a message. America stands with Israel, not with the terror sympathizers or UN bureaucrats who remain silent every time Hamas violates international law.
The ceasefire may still be technically in place, but so is Israel’s resolve and under Trump, so is America’s.
