Trump EPA to Repeal Obama’s Climate Finding in Historic Deregulation Move

White House says rollback will save Americans $1.3 trillion and end the “climate change religion”.

The Trump administration is preparing to deliver what it calls the largest deregulatory action in American history a full repeal of the Obama-era “endangerment finding” that empowered the federal government to regulate greenhouse gases across every corner of the U.S. economy.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin will formalize the repeal in a public event that marks a turning point in the long-running war between environmental extremists and common-sense American energy policy.

“This will be the largest deregulatory action in American history,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “It will save the American people $1.3 trillion in crushing regulations.”

The rule specifically ends EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations on motor vehicles and engines, while removing costly compliance programs and reporting mandates. The impact? According to the EPA, families will see over $2,400 in savings per vehicle, and transportation costs will drop across the board.

Zeldin described the move as “driving a dagger into the heart of the climate change religion.”

Environmental groups are already foaming at the mouth. The Sierra Club is threatening lawsuits, accusing Trump and Zeldin of trying to “wish away” the 2007 Supreme Court ruling in Massachusetts v. EPA, which first opened the door for greenhouse gas regulation under the Clean Air Act.

But here’s the reality: that 2009 finding was never passed by Congress. It was a unilateral bureaucratic weapon crafted by the Obama EPA used to justify sweeping regulations on cars, trucks, power plants, and American industry. It choked innovation, spiked energy prices, and handed power to unelected environmental elites.

And now it’s being dismantled. “We are restoring consumer choice and freeing Americans from regulatory overreach that punished working families under the guise of saving the planet,” the EPA said in a statement.

This isn’t Trump’s first strike against climate alarmism. In 2025, the administration repealed Biden’s federal EV tax credits as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” a landmark legislative win that scrapped provisions from the so-called Inflation Reduction Act. Zeldin has also announced dozens of upcoming rollbacks targeting “hidden taxes” baked into decades of climate-related regulations.

The new rule does not yet repeal emissions regulations for power plants, but it lays the groundwork for future action signaling that Trump’s administration is just getting started.

And it’s long overdue.

  • The endangerment finding empowered bureaucrats to regulate everything from SUVs to lawnmowers to power grids.

  • It added billions in compliance costs and artificially inflated vehicle prices for working-class families.

  • All while doing nothing measurable to affect global temperatures or weather patterns.

President Trump is now correcting course restoring energy freedom, cutting red tape, and delivering real savings to Americans tired of paying for elite climate theater.

As lawsuits loom, the administration remains undeterred. The EPA is confident its legal footing is sound, and public support for energy affordability is only growing.
