Trump Endorses Mike Johnson for House Speaker in Strong Show of Support

President-elect Donald Trump has officially endorsed Mike Johnson (R-LA) to retain his position as Speaker of the House, calling him “a good, hard working, religious man” in a statement Monday. Trump’s endorsement follows speculation that House Republicans, holding a narrow majority, might challenge Johnson’s speakership.

“LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN,” Trump urged on social media. “Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!”

In a statement following Trump’s endorsement, Johnson expressed gratitude, saying he was “honored and humbled by [Trump’s] support.” He vowed to act swiftly in delivering on Trump’s America First agenda.

“Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America,” Johnson said. “The American people demand and deserve that we waste no time. Let’s get to work!”

Trump used the moment to reflect on the Republican Party’s sweeping 2024 election victories, highlighting key successes in swing states and beyond. He attributed the GOP’s triumph to being the party of “common sense” while criticizing the Democrats for their mismanagement and divisive tactics.

“ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS…ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, & PROFESSIONALISM,” Trump declared. He praised the Republican campaign as “legendary” while mocking the Democrats for wasting $2.5 billion on what he called a “sinking ship.”

He lambasted the opposition’s spending, pointing to alleged misuse of funds for celebrity endorsements, including $11 million to Beyoncé and $2 million to Oprah, saying their contributions amounted to little. Trump also condemned the DOJ and FBI’s efforts to target him during the campaign, calling their actions a “disaster.”

With Trump’s resounding endorsement, Johnson’s leadership is expected to be a cornerstone of the Republican majority’s effort to push forward an America First legislative agenda.
