Trump Declares ‘I Will NEVER SURRENDER’ After Gunman Targets Him in Palm Beach

Former President Donald Trump issued a defiant statement on Sunday after yet another assassination attempt targeted him while he was golfing at his West Palm Beach club. In his message to supporters, Trump made it clear that neither the gunman nor the threats against him would deter his mission.

“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!” Trump stated, quelling fears about his safety. He continued with a promise to his loyal base, “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

The incident unfolded when a gunman reportedly poked the muzzle of a rifle through a fence at Trump International Golf Club. Secret Service agents quickly engaged the suspect, forcing him to flee. A semi-automatic rifle, described as an AK-47, along with a backpack and a GoPro camera, was later recovered. According to preliminary reports, the camera suggested the shooter intended to film the attack. A suspect was apprehended by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office soon after.

The FBI confirmed it is investigating the event as an attempted assassination of the former president. The Secret Service, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is also involved in the investigation. Despite the ongoing threats, Trump remains undeterred, sending a clear message that his campaign and his commitment to America are stronger than ever.

• This is the second attempt on Trump’s life in the past few months, the first being a shocking attack during a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was grazed by a bullet in his right ear.

• The July attack claimed the life of a rallygoer, 50-year-old fireman Corey Comperatore, and wounded two others before Secret Service agents neutralized the shooter, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man armed with a rifle.

• Despite these repeated attempts on his life, Trump continues to project resilience, raising his fist in defiance after each attack, rallying his supporters and refusing to back down.

In contrast to the media's often tepid response to these assassination attempts, the Biden administration acknowledged the attack. The White House released a statement, noting that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had been briefed and were "relieved" to know Trump was safe. However, such responses feel hollow when one considers how Trump has been consistently targeted while Democrats and the mainstream media largely ignore the escalating political violence.

In the aftermath of the July attack, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned, following harsh criticism for the security lapses that allowed the Pennsylvania shooter to get within striking distance of Trump. Sunday's attack once again raises serious concerns about the security apparatus surrounding the former president, especially as he leads the charge for the 2024 Republican nomination.
