Trump vows crackdown as DOJ identifies suspect in federal officer assault

As Democrats flounder on law and order, Trump makes clear that attacks on police will not go unpunished.

In yet another disturbing chapter of Democrat-enabled lawlessness, the Department of Justice has confirmed the identity of the man accused of assaulting a federal officer during an anti-ICE protest in Southern California. His name is Elpidio Reyna and if the Left thinks it can shield criminals like him, President Trump has made it clear: not on his watch.

Reyna was captured on video allegedly hurling rocks at federal officers and law enforcement vehicles in Paramount, California. The attack left a federal officer injured and caused damage to government property. The FBI, acting swiftly, offered a $50,000 reward for information on the suspect, labeling him "armed and dangerous."

Attorney General Pam Bondi broke the news on Hannity, revealing that Reyna is now the subject of a federal manhunt.

  • The suspect is expected to be added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

  • Authorities executed a search warrant at his residence shortly after his identification.

  • Under the Hobbs Act, looters and violent demonstrators could face up to 20 years in prison.

Bondi emphasized a clear message: "If you spit on a police officer, loot a store, or throw Molotov cocktails, we’re coming after you federally." She added that federal law allows for a maximum of five years in prison simply for spitting on a federal officer.

This incident is not isolated. It reflects a broader breakdown in public order across Democrat-run cities, where local officials increasingly refuse to back the police. In fact:

  • Los Angeles saw a 16% spike in assaults against officers in 2023 alone.

  • Over 90% of anti-ICE protest arrests in California last year resulted in charges being dropped or reduced.

FBI Director Kash Patel echoed Bondi's hardline stance, stating, “If you assault a law enforcement officer, you’re going to jail period.” He emphasized that the FBI would not be deterred by the political cowardice of local jurisdictions that turn their backs on the thin blue line.

This is precisely why Americans are turning back to strong leadership. The Biden administration’s refusal to enforce basic laws has emboldened chaos, while President Trump’s unwavering support for law enforcement offers a return to order and accountability. As Bondi put it: “You can run, you can’t hide.”

Law and order are not optional. They are the foundation of a functioning society and under Trump, justice will no longer be optional either.
