Trump Slashes Tariffs as China Commits to Major U.S. Agriculture Deal

A new Trump-Xi agreement promises relief for American farmers and a crackdown on fentanyl, strengthening U.S. trade leverage.

In a major win for American farmers and national security, President Donald Trump announced a significant tariff reduction on Chinese goods following a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the APEC Summit in South Korea. The agreement is a clear demonstration of how strategic leadership can yield real results for the American people without compromising strength.

The Trump administration cut the tariff rate on China from 57% to 47%, following China's commitments to purchase massive quantities of U.S. agricultural products and assist in stopping the deadly flow of fentanyl into the United States.

“We agreed on many things, with others, even of high importance, being very close to resolved,” Trump stated on Truth Social, describing his meeting with Xi as “a 12 out of 10.”

The breakthrough deal includes:

  • 25 million metric tons of soybeans to be purchased by China over the next three years with 12 million set to be bought before year’s end.

  • Expanded Chinese purchases of sorghum, oil, and gas, including a potentially massive energy deal from the state of Alaska.

  • A renewed commitment by China to continue the flow of rare earth minerals, critical to U.S. military and tech sectors.

  • Perhaps most significantly, China vowed to crack down on fentanyl trafficking, agreeing to work with the U.S. to combat the crisis killing over 70,000 Americans annually.

While Democrats spent the past four years appeasing China with weak policies and failed diplomacy, Trump walked into the room, stood his ground, and came out with a deal that puts America first again.

And unlike Biden’s bumbling incoherence on the world stage, Trump’s team was stacked with focused, capable leadership: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer were all present for the nearly two-hour discussion that yielded concrete results.

“China also agreed that they will begin the process of purchasing American Energy,” Trump added. “In fact, a very large-scale transaction may take place concerning the purchase of Oil and Gas from the Great State of Alaska.”

With farm bankruptcies still climbing under Biden’s inflation-strangled economy, this deal couldn’t come at a better time for the backbone of America: its farmers.

And it’s not over. Trump is expected to travel to China in April to finalize the agreement a trip that could lock in even more benefits for the United States.

This is what real leadership looks like. Results, not rhetoric. America First, not globalist appeasement.
