Trump Slams Illinois Leaders as Chicago Crime Soars Again

After yet another violent weekend in Chicago, President Donald Trump didn’t hold back, torching Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for their failed leadership and refusal to accept federal help. The president’s late-night Truth Social post followed reports of six dead and 27 injured across the city in a fresh wave of violent crime.

“Panic stricken Governor Pritzker says that crime is under control, when in fact it is just the opposite,” Trump wrote. “He is an incompetent Governor who should call me for HELP. Mayor Johnson is no better. Make Chicago Great Again!”

Democratic leadership is failing the people of Chicago and they’re too stubborn or ideological to admit it.

Chicago has been the nation’s homicide capital for 13 consecutive years, racking up 573 murders in 2024 alone, according to The Center Square. While Johnson’s office claims crime is down compared to last year, a more honest look shows crime is up 40% since 2021. No matter how they spin the numbers, the facts on the ground speak volumes.

Last week alone:

• 9 murders

• 27 criminal sexual assaults

• 128 robberies

• 114 aggravated batteries

• 117 burglaries

• 297 stolen vehicles

• Nearly 1,000 thefts

And yet, Pritzker and Johnson reject any help from Washington, D.C. even as federal troops in the nation’s capital have helped bring homicides to near-zero in recent weeks.

“Chicagoans are not asking for a militarized force to occupy our city,” Mayor Johnson claimed in a press conference, parroting the tired line that community-based programs will solve deeply rooted violent crime.

The governor was even more hostile. “Trump is neither wanted here nor needed here,” Pritzker scoffed despite his city’s ongoing bloodbath.

But what are Chicagoans actually asking for? Safety. Stability. A sense that someone in power takes the violence seriously. Instead, they’re getting press releases about “holistic approaches” while gang shootings turn neighborhoods into war zones.

The president’s suggestion to bring in the National Guard, already in effect in D.C., has proven successful. Over 2,200 troops have been deployed in the capital over the last two weeks. The result? Just one homicide during that time.

Meanwhile, Chicago continues to lead the nation in illegal gun recoveries, surpassing both Los Angeles and New York combined. The city is awash in crime and completely devoid of leadership.

Mayor Johnson touts a 33% reduction in homicides and a 38% drop in shootings year-to-date. But these numbers ignore the bigger picture crime is surging compared to just a few years ago, and the city’s overall livability continues to plummet. Businesses are fleeing, families are leaving, and law enforcement morale is at an all-time low.

Pritzker and Johnson can deny reality all they want but Trump is right: Chicago needs help. If Democrats won’t act, then maybe it’s time the people of Illinois elect someone who will.
