Trump Unveils Plan to Seize Cartel Assets to Compensate Victims of Migrant Crime
Former President Aims to Tackle Border Crime with Bold Restitution Fund Initiative.
Former President Donald Trump announced an ambitious plan on Tuesday to seize assets from criminal gangs and drug cartels and redirect those resources into a compensation fund for victims of migrant crime. Speaking from Mar-a-Lago, Trump outlined this initiative as part of his broader agenda to combat violent crime and secure America’s borders if elected to a second term.
“For the first time under my administration, we will be seizing the assets of the criminal gangs and drug cartels,” Trump declared, adding that the funds would “create a compensation fund to provide restitution for the victims of migrant crime.” Trump assured supporters, “The government will help in the restoration. The government will help in the restitution, but something has to be done, and we’re gonna get it done.”
This initiative addresses two major issues that have consistently topped voter concerns: immigration and violent crime. With economic concerns also looming, many Americans feel the impact of rising crime linked to unchecked illegal immigration a crisis that Trump attributes to the policies of the current administration.
Trump’s primary rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, has faced backlash for her handling of border security. Tasked by President Biden in 2021 with curbing the “root causes” of migration, Harris has overseen an ongoing immigration crisis, with record-breaking numbers of illegal border crossings and concerning statistics from the Department of Homeland Security. As of July 2024, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in the U.S. have been identified as serious criminals, according to ICE data.
In addition to her controversial role in immigration policy, Harris has been criticized for her support of “defund the police” sentiments and promoting a bail fund to assist individuals arrested during the George Floyd riots in 2020. Trump didn’t hold back, calling Harris “grossly incompetent” and stating that the “full consequences of Kamala’s four-year reign are almost too terrible to discuss or contemplate.”
Alongside his asset seizure plan, Trump highlighted the impact of cartel-driven fentanyl trafficking, which he said is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Trump has previously hinted that airstrikes against Mexican drug cartels could be “absolutely” on the table, expressing frustration with Mexico’s lack of action against these groups. “Mexico is going to have to straighten it out really fast,” he said earlier this year, adding that America cannot continue to suffer the devastating effects of fentanyl imported from across the southern border.
Trump’s proposal taps into a growing frustration among Americans with the Biden administration’s approach to border security and violent crime. By creating a restitution fund for victims of migrant crime, Trump is emphasizing that law-abiding citizens should not bear the consequences of criminal networks operating with near impunity. His message resonates with voters who see the 2024 election as a pivotal moment for America’s safety and sovereignty.
With a clear stance on dismantling cartel power, Trump’s bold plan to seize cartel assets aims to deter criminals and bring relief to Americans victimized by these networks. As he put it, “something has to be done, and we’re gonna get it done.”
