Trump Threatens to Cut California Funding Over Trans Athlete in Girls’ Sports

President Donald Trump delivered a scathing rebuke to California and Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday, threatening to cut off federal funding to the state after a biological male athlete advanced to the girls’ state championship track and field finals.

Trump’s warning comes after AB Hernandez, a junior high school student who identifies as transgender, dominated two girls’ events the triple jump and long jump at the Southern Section finals. Hernandez beat out top female competitor Katie McGuinness with a 19' 2.75" jump, eclipsing McGuinness’s 18' 9.5".

“This is TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.’”

Trump wasn’t done. He blasted the state’s open-door approach to gender identity policies and demanded immediate action or else.

“Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to,” Trump said, referencing the order he signed on February 5 that bans male athletes from competing in women’s sports divisions in federally funded programs.

Here’s the reality California refuses to face:

• A male athlete who couldn’t dominate in the boys’ division is now virtually unbeatable against female competitors.

• Girls like Katie McGuinness, who trained for years, are being robbed of victories and recognition based on ideology, not fairness.

• Trump has called for local officials to step in and bar Hernandez from competing in the girls’ State Finals if the state won’t.

Governor Newsom, for his part, tried to play both sides telling conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in March that he believes it’s “deeply unfair,” but later dismissing the issue as one “weaponized by the right.” Translation he’ll talk, but he won’t act.

Trump responded bluntly: “I will talk to Newsom today to find out which way he wants to go… In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!”

Meanwhile, McGuinness told Fox News the quiet truth many are afraid to say: “Girls, every day, are losing their spot due to biological boys beating out biological girls.” She’s right and Americans are waking up to the cost of this radical gender ideology.

This fight is far bigger than just one track meet. It’s about whether we, as a country, are willing to stand up for biological truth, for fairness, and for our daughters’ right to compete on a level playing field.

Trump’s stance is clear science, not politics, determines sex. And if states want federal dollars, they must follow the law not bend to woke activism.
