Trump’s Border Czar Tells Democrat Governors Protecting Illegal Immigrants To Move Aside

Democrat governors determined to shield illegal immigrants may soon be facing a blunt choice: step aside or prepare to be overrun by federal enforcement.

Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s newly appointed border czar, isn’t mincing words when it comes to Democrat governors who are bent on shielding illegal immigrants within their states. In a fiery interview on Fox News, Homan made it clear that state leaders obstructing federal immigration enforcement would either need to cooperate or get out of the way.

Homan, who previously served as Trump’s acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), made his frustration with Democratic leadership at both the state and city levels abundantly clear. “I’ve been on this network for years complaining about what this administration did to this border,” Homan said. “When the president asked me, ‘Would you come back and fix it?’ Of course. I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t.”

As the Biden administration’s policies left the border under-resourced, border agents have faced an unprecedented 1.7 million illegal border crossings this fiscal year alone. These numbers, a grim testament to the ongoing crisis, have spurred a renewed push for strict enforcement. Homan’s return to ICE signals a seismic shift from the lenient stance under the current administration to an aggressive approach, with Trump aiming to end so-called “sanctuary” policies that undermine federal law.

Key points from Homan’s remarks:

  • No Compromise on Enforcement: Homan stated he intends to work with local law enforcement whenever possible but stressed that cooperation is not optional. “I’ve seen some of these Democratic governors say they are going to stand in the way,” he remarked, adding that if they won’t support removal proceedings, they need to “get the hell out of the way.”

  • Federal Intervention in Sanctuary Cities: Homan signaled that jurisdictions that refuse to assist ICE should expect a federal escalation. “If we can’t get assistance from New York City, we may have to double the number of agents we send,” he asserted. With New York, California, and Illinois among states enforcing policies to protect illegal immigrants, these places are likely to be the first targets of Trump’s strengthened border policies.

  • National Security Crisis: With Homan calling the current situation a “national security crisis,” it’s clear that the upcoming administration sees open borders as a serious threat. Trump and Homan argue that states and cities protecting undocumented immigrants aren’t just violating federal law but are also placing American citizens at risk.

For Homan, the choice is simple: Democrat leaders can either help ICE or risk watching federal forces bypass them altogether. With Trump set to return to the White House, this hardline stance signals a return to his core campaign promise a secure border and a safe America.

This renewed focus on border enforcement will undoubtedly challenge Democrat-led states that have prided themselves on their “sanctuary” status. For many Americans, the showdown could be a welcome course correction from the last four years of unchecked border crossings and loose enforcement. With Homan leading the charge, the message to Democrats protecting illegal immigrants is unmistakable: Move, or be moved aside.
