Trump Admin Moves to Equip All Federal Immigration Agents in Minneapolis With Body Cameras

New policy follows fatal shootings as DHS under Kristi Noem doubles down on enforcement and transparency.

In a bold and unprecedented move, the Trump administration is deploying body-worn cameras to every federal immigration officer operating in Minneapolis, following two recent confrontations that resulted in the deaths of anti-ICE agitators. This marks a sharp pivot in transparency and law enforcement accountability, while signaling a new era of unapologetic border enforcement under President Trump’s leadership.

The decision comes after former Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino was replaced by Trump’s trusted immigration enforcer, Tom Homan, who took charge of immigration operations in Minneapolis just last week. Homan’s appointment follows two high-profile fatal encounters with far-left activists Alex Pretti and Renee Good who allegedly threatened or assaulted federal agents.

In one case, Good was shot after appearing to strike an officer with her car. In the other, Pretti was seen on video vandalizing an ICE vehicle, spitting on an agent, and brandishing what looked like a firearm. His family is now claiming he “posed no threat,” despite the footage and behavior that say otherwise.

The key takeaways:

  • All DHS agents in Minneapolis will now wear body cameras, with plans for nationwide expansion “as funding allows,” according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

  • The move comes directly after the reorganization of immigration command, with Trump ally Tom Homan now overseeing enforcement in the city.

  • Both fatal incidents involved suspects who had prior confrontations with ICE, one of whom appeared armed and aggressive on video days before being shot.

Noem announced the policy on X, crediting a high-level discussion with ICE Director Todd Lyons, CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, and Homan himself. “We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” she said, praising the initiative as part of building “the most transparent administration in American history.”

President Trump, when asked about the announcement during an Oval Office event, gave the move his stamp of approval.

“If she wants to do the camera thing, that’s ok with me,” Trump said. “They generally tend to be good for law enforcement because people can’t lie about what’s happening.”

He’s right. Body cams don’t just protect officers they expose the left’s dishonest narratives.

These policy changes come as Congress debates new funding for the Department of Homeland Security, especially in light of escalating illegal activity in sanctuary cities like Minneapolis. Despite Democrats scrambling to spin these fatal confrontations as abuses of power, the facts are clear: both individuals involved escalated the situation, and both presented threats to federal agents operating in hostile environments.

What the left refuses to acknowledge is that federal officers are doing their job in cities that openly oppose them, often while under attack from unhinged activists who believe law enforcement has no right to operate. The body cameras will now provide undeniable proof of what officers face on the ground.

According to CBP statistics, assaults on federal agents have increased over 30% since 2023, particularly in so-called “sanctuary cities” where cooperation with federal authorities has all but collapsed. Minneapolis, which voted to “defund the police” just years ago, has become a national case study in what happens when ideology trumps law and order.

Trump’s DHS is no longer playing defense and this body cam rollout proves it.
