Transportation Secretary Confirms Deadly D.C. Plane Crash Was Preventable

Sean Duffy backs Trump, calls for accountability in wake of midair collision.

Newly confirmed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wasted no time getting to work, delivering a sobering assessment of Wednesday night’s deadly midair collision over Washington, D.C. Duffy made it clear: this tragedy was preventable.

The crash, which occurred just outside Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, involved an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army helicopter. Both aircraft plunged into the Potomac River, with no expected survivors. At least 28 bodies have already been recovered.

On Truth Social, President Donald Trump immediately questioned how such a catastrophe could happen under what appeared to be routine flight conditions.

  • The plane was on a standard approach to the airport.

  • The helicopter was flying straight at the aircraft for an extended time.

  • It was a clear night, and visibility was excellent.

Trump didn’t mince words, calling it a “bad situation that should have been prevented.” And now, his Transportation Secretary agrees.

During a press conference Thursday morning, Duffy confirmed that communication between the aircraft and air traffic control was standard. That means there was no equipment failure or sudden weather event just human error or procedural failure.

“If you’re asking whether there was a breakdown in communication between the military helicopter and the American airline flight the answer is no,” Duffy stated.

So why did this happen? That’s the burning question Americans deserve answers to.

This tragedy has renewed scrutiny on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and its hiring and training practices. Under Biden, the FAA focused on “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) rather than merit-based hiring. This shift lowered standards for critical air traffic control positions, allowing underqualified individuals to take jobs that require precision, intelligence, and split-second decision-making.

  • The FAA reduced testing requirements for air traffic controllers under Biden.

  • The agency emphasized race and gender quotas over actual ability.

  • Pilots and aviation experts have warned that this approach could lead to disaster.

Now, just days into Trump’s second term, we’re seeing the deadly consequences of Biden’s reckless policies.

Duffy vowed to get to the bottom of what happened and ensure that American skies are safe. But the truth is, this accident should never have occurred in the first place. Trump’s call for higher aviation standards isn’t just common sense it’s a matter of life and death.

It’s time to purge the FAA of unqualified hires, restore merit-based standards, and ensure that only the best and brightest are entrusted with keeping Americans safe in the skies.
